I mentioned this in another thread, but thought it may warrant its own discussion. Do people think the Celtics will end up signing a free agent midseason that is bought out by another non-contending team. We may be in position to do so for the first time in quite a few years since we are projected as a top 3 team in the league and probably a top 6 team overall. Last year a player like Joe Johnson opted to sign with the Heat over us for example perhaps because they were viewed as a more credible thread. Will we get someone this year? If so who may get set free midseason

Every year there are about 5-8 guys that change teams at the deadline and latch on to a contender. Last year the guys included Varejo,  Johnson, our own David Lee, Ty Lawson, Khris Humphries and JJ Hickson (hickson is the kind of player i would like to see under stevens).

Hard to say right now.  I think there are a number of factors that will be at play at the time...roster health, position in standings, whether the individual can be re-signed next year, who is out there in the FA market next summer, etc. etc.

i would hope so. our second unit cannot score for its life. maybe that changes with Gerald Green (i'm kinda hoping it does). but as of now, i think we should.

it remains to be seen which teams will suck and buyout their vets though.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

If the Celtics condense some of the depth they have with a trade, then I can see that happening.

But if the Celtics do not, where is the space or minutes?

He would not be bought out because his contract is for 3 more years, but have to imagine Suns will make Chandler available with seemingly very limited chance at making playoffs and having invested a very high pick in Len.

Who are some projected lottery teams?
Suns - Chandler, Teletovic a possibility
Nets - Not that we want them but scola, foye
Sacramento - Koufas? Collison? Belenelli?
Heat - Do they change course if they are clear lottery team?
Others teams that could become sellers
Magic?
Wizards?
Nuggets?
Pelicans?
Mavericks?

No KO and no GGreen last night.  That's a lot of scoring power missing from the bench.

I breezed through the 2017 free agent list and the only free agents next year that could stand a chance of being bought out, are not could be part of their teams future and who's team might suck are:

Tony Allen
Vince Carter
Zach Randolph
Bojan Bogdanovic

If Memphis turns out to have a playoff type team for the first half of the season that eliminates three of those guys and Bogdanvic could be retained because Brooklyn is Brooklyn. That would leave no one I can see that would make a difference and be in a position of need for Boston.

Rudy Gay if he's not traded and is willing to leave money on the table to get out of Sacto (which it really sounds like he's willing to.)

Missed him. Good call.

Just checked, he wasn't on the list that I viewed. I guess I better get a better sight to find this info.

He's got a player option that he's already said he's turning down, so that's probably why.

Yes, after we trade for Cousins and need to fortify it.  ;)

I think our bench is much stronger than it showed last night, too. Adding KO and Green will certainly help, too.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

I am kind of afraid that Rozier will kill the ball movement in the second unit, though. He's best creating for himself rather than others, and I worry about him being the primary ball-handler and not sharing the duties with Smart, who is more inclined to get others involved.

Maybe not over-reacting to one preseason game would be a reasonable course of action.
