I was listening to the Locked On NBA podcast today (Kevin Pelton was the guest) and one comment really caught my attention. We all know that one of the current defensive trends is switching, and Pelton said that, ideally, if he were running a team he'd want to switch 1-4. I'm sure most of you have also heard that the post-up is a dying art. Pelton and Locke took issue with this, coming to the agreement that a 4 who could defend 1-4 adequately could become a dominant post scorer. The idea being that if both teams switch, the 4, who is adequate on defense, will have lots of positive mismatches on offense. Always working against smaller players, this 4 could become a dominant post scorer.

While listening to this, Jaylen came to mind. Specifically, this tidbit from his trainer came to mind:

http://www.masslive.com/celtics/index.ssf/2016/09/jaylen_browns_trainer_boston_c.html

Jaylen's trainer believes Jaylen can develop a deadly mid-post game; I agree.

Fast forward to tonight. For those of you who are watching the game, you know what I'm talking about. For those of you who are not: on Jaylen's first touch, he posted up along the baseline and hit a sweet fade away:

I know a lot of us are excited about Jaylen. Expectations are high, and they should be for a prospect with such pedigree. Thankfully, there'sreason to believe he could be something special.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Beautiful execution. He was already showing this move in Summer League, had a buzzer beater against Dallas with it. Goes into the motion quick, squares up and really elevates.

Good call on the 1-4.... Play him at 2, a la Jimmy Butler, and he has a height advantage all night. And if he can do THIS kind of thing... well, good night nurse.

Get a killer Jump Shot ...

Then he has the Kobe thing ......the choice of burning you from outside or dunking on you in a heart beat.

He needs a go to outside jumper

No doubt. He can be rookie of the year, just has to beat out Dunn.

Footwork is still a mess.  It will take some time.

My dream Is Pierce retires and becomes Jaylen's footwork coach.

This kid has got serious potential. He was everywhere tonight. Grabbing boards, made some really nice passes, attacked close outs with purpose, total pest on D, off the charts athleticism. He's only 19. As soon as he puts it all together, he'll be a stud. Let's hope he gets there. Sure seems like he has the right mentality to do it.

Plus, that first step is just incredible. Jaylen is going to get the rack at will. His finishing will continue to improve, as will his kick outs. He has a James Harden ability to get to the bucket and draw contact with WAY more athleticism. He could get to star status just by exploiting that and playing great D. If he adds a decent jump shot, look out.

I've been saying this for a while now, but don't be shocked if Jaylen is playing a bigger role than most expect him too this season. That 2nd unit is going to need that ability to go and get some points when the 2nd unit's shots not falling. Can't wait to see more of him.

I am impressed by him. He was viewed as a future superstar just a year ago

Remember how people were shocked when Spurs traded George Hill for Kawhi? And then Kawhi came back from lockout with a better shot mechanic and a passable jumpshot? Then went on to torch opponents on both ends of the floor? Jaylen is 19 and if he develops a shooting touch, there is no limit to his upside. Hope he stays healthy.

By the way this is a really nice quote from Popovich:

Popovich also talked about the hesitation the San Antonio Spurs had in trading away George Hill for Leonard on draft night.

“We were all looking at each other like, Are we really going to do this? We were scared s‑‑‑less. We don’t know this kid. He’s not a shooter. He’s not a scorer. He’s not a perimeter player. He’s a big guy who can rebound.”

good find, and Kawhi is not a lottery pick and he worked his way into a Finals MVP and all-star. Brown can do the same and is definitely mature enough to do it!

jaylen to me is the best player in this draft.  This is the problem with the internet though is if anyone suggested such a thing they'd be thought as crazy.  I wouldn't trade him for Simmons or Ingram right now.

He needs a consistent shot.   If he can hit that fadeaway consistently, he will be lethal.

I agree, everybody trying to shoot 3s, but with his driving, is he can do some pick and pop or slash and shoot the mid range jumper, he's gonna be very hard to guard
