I'd just like to add that I think legit nba reporters have the same bad sources quite often. Sometimes the source doesn't really know, sometimes the source knows but isn't truthful.
Also, I was always under the impression the Brooklyn pick was being discussed for higher in the lottery. I do think people just got confused and assumed the same assets were being discussed for #9. Which doesn't really make sense. Why would the same offer get you #4 or #9? You'd think the value of the offer would decrease significantly. If you think the offer for #9 was four picks (one Brooklyn pick), what do you think the offer for #3 or #4 was? Two Brooklyn picks? Six overall picks? Why didn't we hear about that offer?
I think the details were different for different scenarios and we've conflated those details after hearing rumors of different assets in play.
