My guess is that he had his fair share of "advisor" and "assistant" opportunities.

Based on his manifesto, I doubt Hinkie was all that interested in taking a position of that sort.  Probably he wants to wait a bit, allow his vision in Philadelphia to be vindicated by how good the Sixers look with Simmons and Embiid on the floor, and then try to get the next GM opening.
perhaps, though i am doubtful that any owner would let me recreate his philly plan.

It is hard to see him being given another gm position also. I think that was part of the reason that manifesto was leaked. To make him look like a fool. As it has been pointed out, there is nothing really particular brilliant in what he did either. What was most unique was ownership allowing him to do it for that long. It could be argued he didn't even execute the strategy that great as it appears he may have missed on okafor and the team is having trouble getting fair value based on his BPA strategy regardless of position.

On the contrary, I think Hinkie wrote that manifesto knowing it'd be leaked to the public.

Now, a lot of it was rather tone deaf nonetheless, but I think he was making his case to more than just the board of the Sixers.

Somebody will give him a chance.  His major failing was not adequately taking into consideration the human side of things, especially with the players, agents, and the media.

If he agrees to work hand-in-hand with some significantly empowered assistants who know how to handle that stuff, I think he'll get another shot.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Is it me, or does Hinkie's style of writing eerily resemble LarBrd's?

What do you think, LB? Ready to reveal your true identity?

Lol. Now that you mention it, I also kinda feel that way.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

When I read Hinkie's Mission Statement, I cried.

I enjoyed Hinkie's resignation letter.

Hinkie will be back in the nba, no doubt.

If I were a 76ers fan I would have been pretty annoyed with Hinkies process.

- 2013 Drafted an injured Noel coming off an ACL injury, did not play
- 2013 Drafted MCW, developed for 2 years then traded away for a future pick (although long term good choice for value)
- 2014 Drafted injured Embiid with back fracture. did not play 2 years
- 2014 Drafted Sacric, stashed overseas 2 years, did not play 2 years
- 2015 Drafted Okafor, plays same position as last two prime picks in the draft.

Basically they have used 5 high draft picks over 3 years, with near no NBA on court player development over that time. They may be on track now, but going through 3 years of having a d-league team with the cornerstone players not even suiting up is tough to swallow.

He will be remembered as the guy who took Okafor over Porzingis.

I think that was his one, colossal, mistake.

I think as Celts fans we have to remember that Sixers fans watched the team be utterly and totally mediocre for over a decade.

After they made the Finals in 2001, they won 43, 48, 33, 43, 38, 35, 40, 41, 27, 41, 35 (equivalent to 43 -- lockout), and 34 games.

During that time, the Sixers made it out of the first round just twice -- 2003 and 2012.  They never made it further than the second round.

That's a loooooooong time to spend in the purgatory of the NBA middle class.

During that time, their lottery picks were Iggy @ 9, Thaddeus @ 12, Turner @ 2, and MCW @ 11.

From that perspective, it's not surprising that many 76ers fans were willing to spend a few years at the absolute bottom of the league, if it meant they'd have a very good chance of finally getting the pieces necessary to climb out of the morass of the NBA middle.

Rest assured, if the Celts ever spend 12 years winning 30-45 games and rarely making it past the first round, these forums will be a writhing mass of fans screaming for the mercy of a comprehensive tank job.

Pho are you already forgetting about the period between 1992-2007?

I agree. If Okafor tops out as a scoring big off the bench this could be near a bowie/jordan moment.

Had he taken Porzingis at #3 over Okafor, he would have been absolutely unequivocally skewered by everyone.  Nobody really had Porzingis over Okafor.   And while Porzingis had a very encouraging season on the Knicks surrounded by actual NBA players, he's a tad overrated right now (while Okafor is pretty underrated).  Selecting Porzingis would still put them in a log jam right now.  The Okafor pick was a solid one.
