Never, but mostly because I think Brown is getting traded before it would be a real option.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I kinda doubt Jaylen's getting traded, but I don't think he'll supplant Crowder.

Seems more likely to me that, if he develops, he'll take over the 2 guard spot or take the 3 spot and push Crowder up to the 4.

As soon as he is better and earns it.  It might be a while.

I'm definitely concerned he'll ride the pine with Stevens history of not playing Rozier anything but garbage minutes, playing Sully over Olynyk, Phil pressey, putting smart in the corner. To me, Danny needs to lay down the law and YES risk losing Stevens if he pulls more stuff like this.

I am just hoping Jaylen earns 10-15 minutes of regular PT in the first half of the season.  If he does that, it will be a great sign.   I really hope that a few bad outings won't start to sour some here on him prematurely.  I believe in CBS to figure out what he's got and know how to take him along the right way, whatever that way is.

In general, I don't really don't care who starts (I remember a short phase when Bird came off the bench).  Of course Jae will start this season.  Like Pho said, over the years, in certain situations, they will be on the court at the same time, and that is the question I am more interested in - how well will they play together??

He's really raw right now.  He looks like he's going to struggle early on.   Year 1 will probably be a learning season.  Year 2 we can hope he makes real contributions off the bench.  Yeah 3 is usually the one you look for major leaps.   I hope it happens sooner for him.  I hope we keep him.  He will be fun to watch develop over the years.

I am expecting at least 15 mins a game this season.  As I keep saying, I think people will be surprsied a bit because the areas he has as strengths early on this team can really use.  Back up SF to guard SFs (this was the most underrated things Turner did, which Brown will really have to give us minutes to do as we don't have other players to do it), a transition scorer, a guy who can finish at the rim (alley oops on the Celtics again maybe woooo), and I am expecting him to be a pretty good rebounder even this year at SF.

As his shooting grows he can earn more.  I would give it two seasons as a guess.  Hard to say though because so much could change with this team.  Remember two seasons ago we were leaning on Jeff Green.  Plus, as Pho said above, who knows maybe he ends up developing his shooting and ball handling and he can play SG some.  Maybe he can rebound and defend bigger guys and play small ball PF too.  It'll be interesting to watch.

It's a matter of opinion I guess but I don't agree that Sully earned the minutes he got. He was a disgrace to the uniform and everyone else that worked hard in the off season and in season play.
Today I learned averaging 8 rebounds in 23 minutes a game still means someone hasn't earned the minutes he has received.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

3 or 4 years = Jaylen is raw and long ways away from overtaking Crowder.
Yep, I'd like to think crowder will stay with team and simply move to bench and be in running for sixth man of year down the road

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
3 seasons at least. Unless Jaylen becomes a very reliable shooter and excellent defender, he's not replacing Crowder.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Guess I'm the only one see starting SG potential. Seriously have no idea how things will work out. Brown is probably the best asset to trade right now as Nets picks aren't determined.

With you on this.  Stevens says that one  of the decisive factors in choosing Brown was his versatility. They have also taken advantage of Crowder's versatility in playing him at both four and three; and in fact he also played two in Dallas.

So: there is not only no need to pit one against the other;  in fact there are lots of interesting opportunities to play them together.

The idea that they play the same position belongs to that old rigid framework of one through five.  But they don't really do the same thing on the floor. What is possible with Brown is actually running offense through him with guys - like Jae - spotting up around him. You cannot do that with Crowder.

Absolutely, he could play two.

As for trading him: the return better be spectacular, because his upside is spectacular. But I'd bet against a Jaylen Brown trade.

All good thoughts campers, but I don't think any of us can judge this until we see him play at least 20 NBA games.

So, I just went with what I would like to see which is one season.
