How much better are the Celts with the addition of Horford, Green, Brown?

The xfactor imo is Brown.  We already know what to expect from Horford and Green coming off the bench.   If Brown can play like a ROY candidate , than I like our chances to at least get past the 1st round and have a good chance to get past the 2nd round of the playoffs

I don't want to sound overly optimistic about this team just to have it bite my own words later. But I will say definitely get out of the 1st round if healthy. This team still has lots to prove and I think Brown will surprise people in a positive way.

I think he will gradually earn minutes as the season progresses, I predict 10-15 minutes to begin the season and end the season at 25-30 minutes.

I think Horford and Amir pairing will be better than most people think. Both selfless and good passing bigs which will help us more in the long run.

I think dark horse is Smart. I definitely want to say this is the year he makes his leap. No injury excuses, I say he starts driving more, and will probably still shoot the same amount of 3s. With more point guard responsibilities now that Evan Turner is gone. I don't know is Rozier's summer league play has earned him a 2nd unit role just yet.

As often is the case with polls, my answer was not listed.   I was looking for "No better in regular season but a better shot at winning a series in the playoffs".

I think the Celtics over-achieved in the regular season but it will be hard to do that two seasons in a row.  Then they were exposed in the Playoffs by a not so great Atlanta team.  I  think reality is somewhere in between even with Horford.

Green to me and Brown are not factors.  Those two probably won't do any more than Turner gave us.  Horford essentially replaces Sullinger.  Sullinger actually played very well at the beginning of the season.  I don't expect Horford to be all that much better than early season Sullinger but Horford should be able to keep it up and provide a better overall season.

So the net is better yes but teams will play us better in the regular season so better may mean the same number of wins.  As a playoff  team, I like us better but we are still a team without a star.

I agree with Vermont.  I would expect only a game or two improvement in the win column, but the team should be better prepared to win a playoff series.  Of course that all comes down to matchup.

I understand your points yet differ on some. Of them.

First, the Celtics have already overachieved for two straight years. When. Rondo and green were traded, who predicted correctly the seasons finish? This is sustainable given CBS.

Second, the loss in the playoffs and being exposed....I am not sure of that. If Bradley, olly, and crowder are healthy the. Celtics had a good chance of beating Atlanta. Even without 3 of the Celtics top 3 point shooters the series went 6 games.

Losing Turner concerns me, as he made a habit out of bailing us out of offensive droughts last year. That being said, with the addition of the three you mentioned (particularly Horford and Brown), plus the expected improvement of guys like Bradley, Smart and Olynyk, I think it's fair for us as a fan base to expect nothing less than 50 wins and advancing to the second round of the playoffs. I'd continue to say that I think it's realistic to expect this team to either win its second round series or lose a heartbreaker in 7 games. These expectations clearly assume that all of our main cogs remain relatively healthy.

Personally, my goal for this season is for the Celtics to establish themselves as an up-and-coming team similar to what the Heat did in Wade's rookie year. Wade - and that team as a whole - electrified the fan base, they played exciting basketball (particularly at home), and thereby convinced Shaq that he was the missing piece to a title contender.

Hopefully we're even better this year, to the point where either A) an elite free agent signs with Boston because he views himself as the final piece to the puzzle, or B) multiple young players for the Celtics take their game to another level and become even more valuable trade pieces, ultimately enabling us to make a blockbuster trade that gives the 2017-18 squad a realistic shot at a title.

Turner is going to be missed more than we think.  Brad Stevens, Danny Anige all said he was key to the second unit.    Also Portland was willing to pay him 17 Million a year.....   So all the posters on here can't ignore that.

I also think Brown is the big X factor. Evan Turner was so important for the C's last year because he could get to the rim. If Brown is able to get to the rim and get to the FT line, that's going to be huge for this team.

I do not if we will get the good or the bad Green, and it is uncertain whether Brown  will contribute much in his first year.

But adding Horford alone is an important improvement. Adding an experienced and consistent scorer was really important for us.

I think we have a real shot at making the ECF (although this does not necessarily mean we will go beyond the second round - the options are somehow oddly formulated).

ECF for me.  I think Horford is a huge addition as he will make everyone better.  Brown a stud, only going to improve and he has the mental toughness of a top notch player.  Green eh.
Loosing Turner will hurt so what we have to look for are improvements by smart and Rozier, add in brown and Turner should not be missed.  Also important is a healthy Amir.  Small side note is sully gone, those pf minutes should go to JJ who has more energy and stretches the floor.  Any center minutes sully gave us we have a HUGE improvement on already

Not sure about Turner. For one thing, we got players to take his mins (Smart, Rozier, Green, Brown). And although he improved a lot in his second year, turnovers and 3p% were still a problem.

Regular season, I think they'll be at least the clear cut 3rd team in the East barring a major injury to Thomas or Horford, possibly as high as 2nd over Toronto if everything goes well.

I think the most likely outcome is a loss in the 2nd round, but I also believe they have what it takes to make it to the ECF if they can avoid Cleveland's side of the bracket.

Ending up with the 4th or 5th seed again would be an out and out disaster.  Another first round loss might prompt major changes.

I think this team has a shot at ECF as they stand now.  I think  we have a lot of x factors that  can take advantage of their opportunities, many already mentioned.  One that I hope happens is Jonas.  This is a guy was in the running for ROY,  and every once and while you can see what he can do.  Read somewhere that he bought a house with a indoor court to work on his game.  If ROY Jonas shows up it will be huge.

IMO because of his end of the game scoring aggressiveness, Turner will be missed.

But the signing of Horford is a piece the C's really needed. He's a real nice fit, allowing the team to be more effective going big and small. He's in his prime, he's a good interior defender, something the C's need badly, he scores well inside and outside, he runs the floor well, and is a real solid team guy. The team simply got better on defense, and offense with him coming aboard.

As said previously, Brown is the X factor... will he be a rookie that needs time, or will he be able to successfully attack the rim, develop an outside shot, and defend like he's known to. IMO If he's able to reliably contribute immediately, then the Celtics could end up in the eastern conference finals against the Cavs. 

Green, is an ok pickup, I just don't think he takes the place of Turner at the end of the game.
