I knew this for a while, but watching the olympics gives the opportunity for fans to see how bad this guy can be

He is not a winning basketball player. As you get older, you start to throw away all the stupid hype talk from every end of the spectrum. You start to break down the reality of basketball.

If you start watching Euroleague ball as well as the entire world basketball you become even more smarter, then you begin to see how NBA players are not as good as advertised.

With all that said you see the differences of team basketball and one on one ball.

You also see how FIBA basketball play defense. They do not give you 5 feet to shoot at will like the NBA does, they play tight.

You watch Cousins and you realize he is a drifter basketball player, posing as an All Star. He need the ball, or he becomes a lazy worthless ball player on offense. Defensively he is attrocious. Lazy, non caring, also low low IQ.

No way you want a guy like Cousins here to win a ring. The team he is on , any team , besides maybe a Warriors team will not win a ring.

he definitely seems like a player you don't want around when there's the slightest bit of adversity. he seems to go the other way when the goin gets tough.

Making judgments about an NBA player after watching a few minutes of Olympic basketball seems odd to me.

Cousins has been one of the best defensive centers in the NBA the past two years.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
There are a lot of Cousins fans out there and it's easy to see why. When he is engaged, he is a complete center on both ends of the court; his talent is undeniable.

But, it is just hard to let go of the fact that his teams have always been bad...not just average or slightly below average, but bad...always. At some point, a player as talented as Cousins should at least be able to bring his team to a .500 record. Every other top player has been able to do the same, even if it was just briefly. Why hasn't Cousins?

This isn't to say that he couldn't be a winning player. Any player who joins forces with other top players will win - that's just how it works. It just seems like something is missing with Cousins.

I'm kind of in the middle on Cousins attitude. The player's ability is undeniable but some of his performances are as the OP said atrocious.  But that is what makes him attainable. If he was the perfect player could we even have any dicussusions on trading for him?

An example I made a joke post about wanting "a rumor" about trading for Davis. Asked for a weak one that was 90% fiction even if it was from a poster on this site done on twitter mind you and posters were all over it like I asked for a real trade. Perfect players can't even be discussed on here for trading. Cousins is the best talent with some known issues that make him a slight possibility. It's slight and means very unlikely.

Cousins has been one of the best defensive centers in the NBA the past two years.

This.

If you watched the Olympics the past few games you'd think Klay Thompson was the worst player in the world. 4 of 26 prior to today's game with France. Then he goes and wins the game against France almost single handedly.

I don't think that Cousins' game is as well tailored towards the international game as it is the NBA. The guy is quite effective in the NBA, especially when motivated. While some of the blame belongs with Cousins, much of it also belongs on the incompetent organization he plays for. If it wasn't for Donald Sterling's Clippers, Sac would be the poster child for organizational incompetence.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

His teams are not bad when he is playing, however.

I think there's a distinction there, and that's without even getting into coaching / front office problems.

He just got posterized.

Cousins is not a winner. Period. This did not begin with watching the Olympics.

I don't think he's atrocious by any means, but this is a great video that speaks to what the OP is saying

I haven't watched any of this Olympics' basketball, but judging by our narrow win over Australia, our narrow win over Serbia, and today's narrow win over France, I'd say just about every American player is giving an atrocious performance.

But that doesn't change my opinion that DMC is a dominant NBA player who would likely thrive under Brad Stevens, and I'd love for Boston to acquire him.

He is one of the few players that you do HAVE to take a chance on.  Is it bad teams etc or attitude??  DJ was considered a bad attitude in Phoenix.
