Celtics have to actually win games and add a good player to get on tv, Knicks just add a name without wins to back it up and get Xmas...

What did the Celtics do to the league?

Keep in mind the league offices are across the bridge from Manhattan in northern Jersey. The Knicks playing at home on Christmas lets the league staff higher-ups spend Christmas at home with the family and still attend a game in person on one of the NBA's signature days, which I assume is more or less expected of them.

I'm sure we could give the hating league many excuses but every time I turn we get the shaft. Even when the Lakers are garbage they get on tv, not even counting last year with the ready made excuse of Kobe retiring.

It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Also note that the Christmas games are a marquee event for the league, and having a game in NY lets them get lots of celebrities on camera, promo movie tie-ins, etc.  It's the same reason why the Lakers will virtually always host a game (the Clippers could fill in now).  Money talks and the league can get more of it by holding games in those major media cities.

Can someone explain why the Celtics NEVER play at home on Christmas?  Okay, I believe they've done it once but the point still stands.

Here's one possible explanation from NBA.com

Quote
No Christmas in Boston?
1964
As we mentioned above, Boston has played host to only one of the Celtics’ 29 Christmas Day games. Their tradition of playing only on the road on Christmas Day stems from Red Auerbach not wanting to subject his staff to working a home game on the holiday.

That being said, for one reason or another, Boston hosted a Christmas Day game was in 1964 against the Detroit Pistons. We’ve already highlighted this contest because Celtics Legend Sam Jones scored 34 points in it, which remains as the franchise’s top scoring effort on Christmas Day. John Havlicek (27 points) and Bill Russell (21 points) also had big games to help the C’s win their only Dec. 25 home game by a count of 118-1106.
Wow, the offense must have really been humming that day lol. Merry Christmas indeed.

TP for an interesting story, I never would have guessed this.

Eh, let the Celtics home employees rest on Christmas. Just get the W on the road and make the host team feel miserable that day, I like the sound of that  ;D

A Celtics win, a Lakers loss, and a LeBron loss will be always be a great christmas for me!

I conceded the Xmas excuses but from post 1 I meant tv in general.
