Folks need to understand that there are quite a few former NBAers trying to make a comeback (another one is Derek Fisher) because the money now is just too good.

Pass, and not because I am still bitter at RA (I am).  Bradley is better overall player at this point and I would rather develop younger cost-controlled players.

I wonder if Ray is looking around at these guys retiring and realizes he wants to be identified with a certain team when he retires. Is that why the two teams he has supposedly talked to are the Bucks and Celtics? There are no Sonics and he was only with the Heat for two seasons.

It would be nice for a veteran presence. But I don't think there's space for him with this roster. I am not in the group of people who dislike him for going to Miami. I don't understand why people still hold that against him.

if he chooses us, it will help the fanbase forgive him when he bolted for Miami. He can serve nicely as a mentor to the younger players, hell I would LOVE it if Smart and Brown learns to shoot from Ray Ray.

Completely agree with the first part.  That would be awesome.  But he's not going to teach anyone how to shoot.

Why?

Because it can't really happen.  He's a great shooter but not a shooting coach.  He can show his routine but it's not going to improve a horrible shooter very much.  Players can be good influences but they aren't coaches.

He absolutely cannot teach Smart and Brown how to shoot. However I do think if he came back his work ethic and routing could really leave an impression on Smart and Brown. Could definitely be valuable for them to see what it takes and see a 41 year old who is one of the greatest shooters of all time still putting in all those carefully constructed hours.

Now of course this would mean Ray would have to still be doing his meticulous routine at 41.

Im not sure that work ethic is something that Smart and Brown need to improve.  Ive not seen anything to inficate that either of those two guys is lacking in that regard.

Plus we have Bradley, Crowder, Thomas, Amir - i dont think there are many in the nba who work harder then those guys.

If Ray offered anything it would be shooting off the bench and hopefully shooting lessons for the kids.  Im not sure Smart could learn much as a shooter, but i do think guys like Brown, Rozier and Jackson have a lot of chance to improve as shooters. 

Perhaps even some of the bigs like Mickey and Olynyk could improve their shooting consistemcy with some pointers from perhaps the best there ever was.

I agree work ethic might not be the right word. I think Marcus and Brown and other guys like Rozier are willing to put in the work, but working smart is just as important as working hard. Ray Allen could show them how one of the all-time greats prepares and hopefully they could take something from it.

If Allen can come in and give you 5-10 minutes a game and shoot ~40% from deep I say do it. in 13-14 Ray shot 38% on 4 3s a game in 27 minutes. He could still have something in that tank. chop those minutes way down and have him run off screens for a few minutes a game.

Funny that one or two months after I've finally forgiven Ray Allen for the way he left Boston he is mulling a comeback to the team. So I'm on board with it since we desperately need shooting and I think we have a strong enough team defense to cover for his (big) weaknesses on that end. And I'm also hoping he could "teach" Marcus and others how to shoot but it's kind of a bonus since we know you don't "teach" it like a skill or something.

On the other end, the tone of the article and the quotes from Ray himself really sound like contenders are no longer interested in his services, he is now aware that if he doesn't find a team now he won't come back in the league, so he's trying to play the nostalgic card. Maybe in order to be remembered with one particular team and cement his legacy instead of his last memory being with the Heat as a "ring-chaser".

Definitely sounds like the interest won't be mutual with the Celtics - the Bucks may make more sense and may be willing to take a chance.

Furthermore, I don't think Ray's age is such a big issue given that his game doesn't rely on athleticism. I would even dare to bet my money on the fact that Ray is in a lot better shape (check his Instagram; pretty impressive for a 41 year old guy) than most guys in the league right now *ahem* Sully *ahem*.

Agreed, but I am convinced that is not his motivation.  He wants the money, it's his last chance to make some coin with his best marketable skill which is playing basketball.

I'll take the pups, Ray Allen is not going to make the difference in beating CLE in the East, so why bother.  Team has a decent set of multi-year vets already - Horford, Bradley, Crowder, Zeller, Green, Thomas.
