Saw SB Nation tweet this out.   An article written during the summer of '17 projecting out who their staff thought would be the top 100 NBA players come 2017.  Needless to say, they swung & missed on a few.

An interesting read.

they have Derrick Rose @ #5 ahead of Kyrie Irving and probably 85 other players better than him so I stopped looking.

Randle at #14 might be the worst one.   At least, the Rose one you can use the injuries excuse.  Also, Curry is low but no one could've foreseen his explosion the past two seasons.

Pretty interesting reading it now.

"O'DONNELL: It'll be interesting to see how long OKC rides with the Westbrook-Durant combo if the Thunder don't win a title by 2017. They probably will, but it's not a given with LeBron James around. Obviously, Westbrook is an amazing player, but he could also be one of the greatest trade assets in league history if the Thunder can't find a way to win the championship at some point. Not advocating it, just bringing it up."

I have to say I misread the story and that it actually was written in 2013 so that definitely makes it more interesting.  :-[

The links seem dead

Try it now.
Thanks.

That was fun to read. imo the further you move out of the top-10, the funnier the list becomes; still, they did get plenty of things right too.

The Rondo discussion is a bit cryptic.

Quote
TJARKS: Since we're all just guessing anyway, do you think Rondo is still wearing a Celtics uniform in 2017?

ZILLER: No chance. I'd say that if the question was "2015." I should also note I was very close to picking Rondo in the 20s.

FLANNERY: I'll take the contrarian view that Rondo will be with the C's for the duration. This has nothing to do with the fact that he's my favorite guy in the league to write about. Nope, nothing at all.

KACZMAREK: I can see Rondo reacting to the tanking Celtics in two ways. Either it'll energize him and he'll want to really step up and be the man, or he'll pout and be a brat, solidifying his reputation as someone that's really hard to coach. We'll see.

Jonas V. a couple of spots later was just as bad, too.

The stretch from 20 to roughly 60 was absolutely terrible.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Pretty funny list. It's crazy how much changes in 3 years.
