I predicted the pick. I said in detail afterwards why I thought it was a good pick. I've predicted good things from Brown in the future.

I don't place much stock in Summer League. SL will tell you who does NOT belong in the NBA, not who does or what they'll do. It's geared towards small, quick players because the defensive schemes are so basic, there's little rotation and the interior players usually aren't defensive-oriented.

With that all said, what I've found that you can take from SL are physical flashes from a player. Anyone can get hot from 3 point land for 3-4 games and make the box score look great. But a true SL evaluation deals with basic man-up defense, how a player puts the ball on the floor, physicality, how soft someone's hands are, etc. Brown showed a lot of positives out there. He showed a decent ability to put the ball on the floor and drive the lane (though his handle needs to improve). He showed great ability to draw contact while using his forearm to keep other players off of him. He showed fast, soft hands. He showed a tremendous lateral leaping ability while still maintaining good vertical height. I thought he rebounded better in SL than in college.

At times he looked bad and it was often due to him trying to do too much. When he got rushed his handle on the ball was really off. He has got to learn as a rookie to play in his comfort zone and then expand that zone slowly. He needs to find his spots on the floor where he's comfortable shooting. His finishing ability at the rim needs to improve by not rushing his shots as he's driving the lane. But overall he showed considerable positive flashes of what he could - and should - become as he gets older.

In conclusion Brown made a positive case in SL as to why he was the #3 overall pick. I expect him to struggle this year but I think he may be closer to contributing than anyone suspects.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

He wasn't one of the 10 best rookies in Summer league, but I don't think it matters.  He's young and has the tools.  He can develop into a really good player in a few years.

Were there really 10 other rookies who you thought were better than Jaylen in summer league?
Statistically, there were 10 other rookies who outperformed Jaylen in Summer league.   I showed it in the Summer league thread.  Jaylen was the 64th best player in Summer League this yearHis poor shooting was a main culprit.

But fwiw, Brandon Ingram was 104th and Ben Simmons basically tied with Brown in EFF.

The 64th best player in summer league according to you was named to the All NBA summer league second team , interesting .....

So if Ben Simmons was tied with Jaylen Brown why was Ben selected to the 1st team n Jaylen selected to the second ?

I think Jaylen Brown will be a force in this league when he's 22 years old. Its gonna take him 3-4 years but he is gonna be one of the best players in basketball and he's a Celtic. I'm excited for that.

He looks good.  His biggest problem is his foot work.  It's a mess and it kills so many parts of his game from shooting to finishing.  If he's got the right work ethic it can be corrected.

Actually I think one of his biggest assets is his footwork. He can drive in either direction, can turn on a dime, and has one of the most explosive first steps I've ever seen. Maybe you are referring to him when he gets tangled up in traffic. Yes, he does have to get better at that.

Ahahaha, when you take all but two or three fouls out of the 'highlight reel' in the op, you're left with only 3:31 of actual baskets, lol ;D. Ugh.

I honestly don't care about highlights or the rest.  If he gets hit and draws fouls anything like what we saw in SL, we will all be very pleased.

Is it too much to ask for him to be able to make baskets, as well, though? :-\ I'm really hoping that this won't be an 'either/or' thing with him, lol.

It's a lot harder to make shots close to the basket if you get hacked every time.  The 10 fouls per person in the summer league promotes hacking people to prevent easy buckets
I'm bitter.

Yeah, I know, but he also missed a lot of easy ones, too.  That's the book on him right now, I guess :-\.

I'm just waiting until he has a decent sample size against actual NBA players with the real NBA rules.  I don't expect him to do great, but I'm hoping he shoots better than Smart did his rookie year (and takes less **** 3s!)

Sure, and I agree with your comment as to the threes.  Ugh.  I'm not sure that that will ever change in regards to Smart, though :-\.

No, and yes it would be nice to convert a few and-1s.  But the next best thing to that is getting to the FT line.  It is the best way to score points in this game.  And by all accounts he can do that.
