The closest we've had to a true back up point guard over the past couple years has been Phil Pressey. Last season Turner basically played point guard/forward even though he wouldn't be considered a true 1. Smart did his best. I'm not sure if he's a one or a two. His ball handling style puzzles me.
The C's have a collection of tweeners and it appears likely Smart and Rozier will play the back up point. Ideally, many of us thought Jackson would fill that role. After his summer league performance it's unlikely he'll even make the team. The good news is Terry has stepped it up during the Summer League. Even at that, he's still not a true one.
So, are we prepared to let Terry and Marcus run the ship when Isaiah rests? Or, should Danny be on the lookout for a true point guard?
Finding an alternative would be my choice. There must be someone in the D-League or elsewhere that could fill that role. My fear is that if Isaiah gets injured there won't anyone to replace him. Remember last season when we were woefully under-prepared when Kelly and Jae got hurt.
Obviously, with roster space at a premium someone like RJ, Mickey or Young would have to be traded in order to bring in someone new.
