It's hard to believe that this thread began 4 days ago.   The 2 other "rumor" threads began only a week ago.  Seems like 2 years.

In general, they have a loose approach to moderating the fake insiders there.   It draws people to the forum.

Well, in particular, in this case, your theory is exactly wrong, completely the opposite of what actually happened. Which is: One of their insiders, who is on their own staff as a mod and writer, was relentlessly and mercilessly trolled across dozens of pages by a total n00b. Their loose approach was applied to the infantile violence-threatening troll harassing the insider, and now they no longer have the clickbait sideshow you think the insider schtick is meant to create and the management there seeks to foster. How on earth are you going to rationalize that? [Grabs popcorn]

Ignore every single rumor unless it comes from the Celtics brass. Don't get excited about a trade unless it happens. If ur gonna sit there n follow every single rumor on twitter then complain about who's a liable source and who's not, well, don't go looking for it. I have Yahoo Sports app n I don't get excited until the app pops up n says Celtics acquired _____! Stay away from rumors n only believe what Danny Ainge comes out n says. Save urself some aggravation.

Nobody hears about most trades until they happen. That's when the media gets the word. Sometimes the amateurs out there catch something in advance--a day or two. It happened with Hanley Ramirez signing with Red Sox. The Sox just traded for Pomeranz, and there was a brief mention of them being interested in him a few days before. That's it, until the announcement.

Right now, it's pretty well accepted that Griffin is a Celtics target. The talk is he's available. How much progress they've made is anyone's guess. There are clearly obstacles with his medicals and his option year. The rest of it is all a bunch of smoke--on either side. Though that visit to SD by Ainge and IT is intriguing. You just have to wait and see what happens.

I'm looking for you to explain what you mean when you say "legitimate". It really isn't a complicated question.

I am looking for you to explain why you need me to do that. I want to know your intentions which you never made clear. It's not that complicated a question.
You could have just said you're not interested in this conversation and you would have saved both of us some bandwidth.

Then you shouldn't have said anything in the first place. Please tell me how the website isn't 'legitimate.'
I've got no idea what a "legitimate website" is, so I'm afraid I can't answer your question. Let's not go through that again.

Larbrd called it a tabloid (i.e. not legitimate). I called it legitimate. It's not that complicated to understand what was being said.

Yet you do realize that tabloids have "real" reporters that spew garbage and illegitimate nonsense 95% of the time, but get some things correct, right?

The National Enquirer is a tabloid.  They have published many magazines with Bigfoot and alien stories on the cover page.  But they also broke some stories that looked like B.S. that turned out to be true (Tiger Woods.)  Just because they have actual reporters with credentials and sources, and just because they occasionally get a story right, doesn't mean they are legitimate.

Legitimate reporters on the Cs are the ones we follow with connects within the team.  Like Bulpett.  He said the Griffin talks have never happened.  So RealGm is indeed illegitimate for saying that this was coming.

And I'm saying RealGM is legitimate. I don't know how what I wrote made you think I don't understand what a tabloid is.

Plenty of reporters report information that turns out incorrect. That doesn't make them illegitimate. RealGM didn't even report anything here. It was one guy, who works part-time for RealGM and actually has had the chance to attend closed summer leagues which is something none of us have been able to do. That's legitimate. Maybe he grasped at straws a little bit, but he actually had contacts most likely. That's incredibly different than your terrible "Big Foot" examples. I don't know why this is so hard for a few of you to grasp here.

Do you know who Shams Charania is? He is one of the leading NBA reporters today with some of the better sources on hand in the country. He currently works for the Vertical. Do you know where he started? RealGM. It's amazing how little some of you think of the website there, lol. Not everything that comes out of there is gold, but to believe it's absolutely impossible for anything relevant or legitimate to come out of there is completely disingenuous.

Heck, even the guy you cited (Bulpett) works for a newspaper that used to be Boston's version of a tabloid years ago. It's gotten much better over the last decade, but it used to be pretty trashy over there.

Also this line right here:

Just because they have actual reporters with credentials and sources, and just because they occasionally get a story right, doesn't mean they are legitimate.

Is pure crunk. It's a strawman argument anyway. Which tabloids are both posting Big Foot stories AND stories that are actually true of source? You just completely made that up. If someone has credentials and sources and occasionally get a story right, they are most definitely legitimate. What are you even saying here? People have to be 100% correct now to be considered legitimate in the sporting world? If that's true, no NBA or sports reporter is legitimate because there is no such thing as a 100% on the money reporter. Even Woj was slipping and getting the Horford story completely wrong minutes before he signed with Boston.

After a decade a n00b successfully ended the clickbai sideshow?  Sounds like a hero.

Geez, when was the last time this thread dealt with the theme in the title?

Guys, why not start your own thread on Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing about info outlets? Maybe this thread will return to it premise.

Y'know, Zeno's Paradox argues that when approaching a destination, one must first travel half the distance, then half the distance remaining, then half of THAT distance, etc, etc, making it impossible to ever arrive at the end point.  This is pretty clearly what's happening here with the acquisition of Griffin, and why car dealer Twitter guy has to take so much flak from lesser minds.

I mean, the original premise was a deal happening Thursday, then over the weekend, and now maybe never?  If you want the thread to die, that's fine.  But the premise is pretty shot.

Keep the thread alive by any means necessary!   Not sure what I'd do without it.

Please see my original post.  I gave you a perfect example.

I have seen plenty of crap rumors and "stories" posted on this site from RealGM.  I have yet to see any  be accurate.  That makes them as close to a tabloid as possible, and the furthest thing from "legitimate."

I would never claim someone has to be 100% correct to be a respectable news source.  In fact, all they have to be is respectable.  The people pushing this Griffin b.s. about a "major deal soon" are not respectable by any measure, and I don't care what scout school, what summer league, or what meeting they attended, or who went on to a better job.
