If it is somehow possible, he may be simultaneously the greatest PF of all time, and one of the most underrated players of all time (hype wise.) [dang] ESPN. Feels like they never truly embraced him. He was the quiet giant who was amazing from start to finish, but he didnt demand attention. Compare that to lebron who utterly needs the limelight. He has a hissy fit when anyone even considers someone may be better than him.

One was content with uncompromised winning, the other feels okay to just be called a king.

Always a sad day when Legends step down...much like Peyton Manning, part of me wishes he could have done it with a championship.

Always a class act. Probably one of the best fundamental players of all time. He should have been a Celtic. Good luck in retirement.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Did it with class, as Tim Duncan would.

I'm lucky to see his entire 19 year run. One of the best I've seen with my own eyes.

Really going to be weird not seeing him play.

Greatest PF ever.

He's top 6 for me, behind Jordan, Russell, Magic, Kareem, and LeBron.

I'll miss Timmy.  Truly enjoyed watching him play.

Played on the most boring team of all time. Lulled his opponents to sleep.

Any chance he pulls a Brett Farve and comes back for a playoff run, well rested on the #2 seed SAS?

The ultimate Pop resting players... ;)

I'll miss him just for the Onion stories:

Duncan was the absolute perfect player to build a team around. A stud on both ends of the court. A class act both on and off the court and loved by every teammate he has ever had. He is living proof that you don't have to be a total dick like Jordan, Kobe and Lebron in order to will your team to a championship.

The one where his autobiography revealed he had had supportive friendships with over 10,000 women was my favorite.

What a guy. He knew he waa going to retire imo. But didnt want the attention.  Just pure business

Steve Kerr couldnt have said it better about him

Steve Kerr on his pal Timmy: “Just a phenomenal teammate. A superstar with the humility of someone who just feels lucky to be in the league”

Still sucks we couldnt win that year lotto to nab him

Best player of his generation.

I'm a little disappointed he won't come back for 1 more season and play 20 mpg as a backup. He could still help the Spurs.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Contrast Duncan's retirement with Kobe's "humble" 2-year farewell tour.  What a joke.  I hope the NBA makes a big deal out of Duncan's retirement.  He was the most dominant player of the last 20-years.

I hated Kobe, I loved Timmy. His quiet retirement says it all. Such a fantastic player to watch - everything he did was efficient and with purpose.
