Officially as of a few minutes ago. The sport won't be the same without him, a true legend.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Legitimately sad. Once in a generation talent and consummate professional.

First ballot HoF and probably the best PF to play the game. He wasn't hyped by ESPN so much but honestly, he might've been the best player of his generation (better than Kobe, Shaq, KG, etc.).

Congratulations on a legendary career, Mr. Duncan!

And yay to me for my 2500th post!

Well deserved. What a career he had. Game won't be the same. Wonder what this means for Pop. Didn't he or someone else say he'd retire when Timmy does??

Also, him and Joey Crawford make for great theater ;)

I do think he is the best player of his generation and the lack of hype suited him very well. Look at his final season compared to how Kobe's played out. One went out with a full blown farewell tour on a lottery team, the other was part of an under the radar contender who finished with the 2nd best record in the league.

Part of Pop's pitch to Aldridge was that he'd stick around for several more years.  This next phase will be very interesting.  I'd like to see Parker's role reduced now.

I have so much respect for Tim Duncan and the organization that he and Popovic built.

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
Not a huge surprise, you could see it in his face as the OKC series slipped away.  He just wasn't the same player anymore.

Incredible player with amazing longevity.  Probably the closest thing fans under 50 have ever seen to a Bill Russell-type.  It's a shame his unspectacular game and quiet personality mean he'll probably be forgotten by casual fans before long.

Contrast Duncan's retirement with Kobe's "humble" 2-year farewell tour.  What a joke.  I hope the NBA makes a big deal out of Duncan's retirement.  He was the most dominant player of the last 20-years.
