Jaylen Brown Positivity thread

Having seen Jaylen play most of his college games Im completely fine with where he is now. His 1st month of the year in college he forced the action alot. So far I havent seen him do that much although Im surprised by all the misses at the rim. As he continues to work he will get better and his performance will get better.

Nothing I have seen has changed my opinion of him one way or another. He is about where I expected him to be. He has always been a guy who get his buckets the hard way.

He is forcing it too much right now. It doesn't help that we had no one who could "stir" the offense. Jackson was awful.

He needs to see how decisive and forceful Nader is when he catches the ball. Brown is a way better athlete. He needs to catch it and start moving.

The Suns smelled blood in the water when we didn't have anyone who could run our offense. That put us on our heals.

Honestly, the coaching these last two games have been terrible too. Our guys are not responding well. They are not hustling. They are not put in a position to succeed much of the time.

On an awful night, he had 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. That's positive.

He shows some defensive ability.  He's got decent ball handling.  Good explosiveness.  Seems like he's able to get to the hoop and create space.   He just can't make a shot or finish at the hoop.   A few years from now, it might be a different story.  He's only 19.  Gotta give him time.  I'm still encouraged, but I have no expectations of him in year 1. 

At this point, gotta be honest, I think Golden State has this league by the balls for a decade.  So I'm plenty fine with just having a mildly competitive team and trying to grow these prospects up over the next several years.  The younger the prospects the better.  I'm doubtful we'll have a championship window anytime soon... so its fine if we're waiting 5+ years for Brown to reach his prime.

He's a freak of nature athletically and his game doesn't have any debilitating holes. He has good handles, and his jumper looks like it will be OK. He was in a bad situation at Cal with zero floor spacing. He has the type of game that is better at the NBA level than at the NCAA level. He could thrive as a small-ball 4.

We could be overreacting to Bender's Summer League performance right now.

At least Bender made a jump shot tonight.  But yeah he didn't look good either.  But then again he's a year younger than Brown.

That's a good point re: Nader.

I don't think Nader is an NBA player, but he looks like a guy who has learned how to maximize what he does well.  He gets the ball and he immediately attacks the space nearest to him.  He's a tweener in the worst sense, and I don't think he'll ever see consistent time at the NBA level, but guys like Brown should look to Nader and say, well, maybe my skills aren't polished yet, but I can be decisive and attack like that.

It's clear that his knee injury has been a factor during the past 2 games. He looked like a different player in the first game in terms of aggression of offense. Whether it's physical pain or mental tentativeness, it's obvious that he's hindered by the bone bruise as a result of the hyperextension. Way too early to be passing definitive judgment on his potential at this point, anything definitive is unrealistic.

I don't think any of us can judge what kind of player Jaylen will be until Year 3. This is summer league, the least organized level of basketball EVER. Brown hasn't even been through Brad's system yet. Give him a couple years with a real coach in a real system and he will be fine.

I'm not sure about that with Nader. I'd like to see him make a few stops on key guys. It seems like he gets blown by a bit. I think he could be a passable defender, but we need a 3 and D guy there.

I'll take a guy who works hard and needs to learn how to score over a player who can score and is lazy everywhere else.  His talent level is there.  He's similar to marcus that way to me.  The Celtics are geniuses drafting these kinds of guys. Once their offense catches up look out.  AB is the same thing.  Ainge is a great drafter.  Marcus and Jaylen haven't had the amount of time AB did yet to develop.  They are more talented than AB.

I think Brown can score though.  He may never be a 30 ppg guy but there are only so many balls to go around. 

We aren't going to beat teams like GS like that.   SA was able to win with lesser scorers and better in everything else though.

GS has prolific scorers and primarily shooters. Green is really their glue guy.  Brown is a slasher and an athletic wing defender.  I'm pretty happy we drafted him.   Crowder is ok but not really a slasher or shooter.  He's just ok.

Now if the officials will follow suit and call the game how they should Jaylen should be getting to the line and getting opposing players in foul trouble.

I want to see the league get back to their physical ways and Brown fits into that.
