That is very interesting, I wouldn't have minded to bring his rebounding back for another year, wonder if it means we are close on something?

Celtics renounced Jared Sullinger's qualifying offer & exception rights, per NBA transaction wire on July 8. Source confirmed it's accurate.

Finally some confirmation on how Al Horford could be made official. I'd like to see someone with more authority report this though.

Hi. Color me ignorant.

Does this mean he is not a restricted FA? Can the Celtics get anything in exchange for him?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I mean it makes sense. He wasn't going to sign the QO and we have cap space if we were to sign him to a 1+1 deal. Perhaps there has been more interest in Zeller and they feel they can work out a sign and trade with him?

We still hold his Bird Rights, and yes he can be used in a S&T still if needed. Unless we also renounced that.

Since Al Horford is already official, things might've gotten tricky.

It makes him a UFA, and we no longer hold his Bird Rights (I believe), so we could only S&T him on a very small contract

Edit: Never mind, we still have his Bird Rights
I'm bitter.

Pobably negotiating a 1yr contract with him. That said, that could still be the case with Sullinger as it is. Who knows. That this occurred is not a guaranteed that he won't be with the C's next year, but makes it less likely.

I read it was for $4.4M which is peanuts these days.  This may mean nothing and Sully could be still be back (at current market rate).

From all I can tell though, we probably renounced his Bird Rights as well. Seems like a premature thing to do by management in all honesty, probably wanted to make sure that Al Horford was signed before he changed his mind lol.

That's a lotta rebounds they have to replace. And they aren't good at rebounding to begin with.
They better have something big coming.

Correct, his Bird rights also needed to be renounced if we removed his cap exception (which was needed to sign Horford).
