I think stats don't do justice when comparing Jimmy Butler in the Bulls system vs. the Celtics system. With Wade joining the Bulls, Butler seems to be in a mess of a system and could this mean a trade to the Celtics is getting likelier?

Regardless, I think Jimmy Butler is a massive upgrade over Crowder, but what do you guys think about  the actual disparity. Advanced stats say that Butler's Offensive and Defensive win shares took a hit, along with his increase in turnover rate, which probably means his style does not fit into the Bulls' system.

I think Butler is a bit more athletic than Crowder. In terms of defense i have no comment but Butler is definitely a better offensive player in my opinion. He can drive and shoot better than Crowder

Butler is top 15-20, Jae is top 30-50 player in the league.
It is a significant upgrade cause we could really use another scorer to put us in that contention spot. However, with both being a Marquette products, i would like to see them team up. I am sure they would too.
Both are versatile, but Butler is way better in ISO situations.

Butler played most of his minutes last year at SG I believe. But he's no doubt a significant upgrade over Crowder. There's a bigger disparity between Butler and Crowder than between Butler and Bradley (due to Bradley's 3 point shooting and better defense).

At the same time I would not be surprised if that ship has sailed. Chicago's asking price was too high to be worth it. We just drafted a guy who should end up doing many of the same things Butler does in the years to come. In the meanwhile Crowder brings other things to that same position as well as a cheap contract and leadership. If there's a deal to be made now it won't be as attractive to Chicago as the deal we would have made before the draft. I don't see Danny giving up that 2017 Brooklyn pick for Butler.

For that reason, I expect that if the Cs make a major acquisition it will be for a big man. It's more of a position of need now.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

He's a pretty solid upgrade over Crowder.  Much better two way player.  Solid defender.  Good at creating his own shot.  For what he's getting paid, he's very solid value (but, so is Crowder).

You can't go wrong with either, IMO, but Butler is a better basketball player than Crowder and by a decent amount.

The biggest difference is in how much Butler can penetrate, create, and get to the line. Crowder just isn't a threat off the dribble or with his passing.

I like Jae, but Butler is a waaay bigger fish. I see this trade for JB on the horizon. In comming days Danny goes strong to get him.

True. Actually that's the whole point, when comparing them.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Butler is a top 10 scorer and top 10 defender.

Jae is a role player scorer and a top 10 defender.

As others have said, Butler's ability to create his own shot and get to the rim/free throw line are what make him a far superior upgrade to Crowder.

One is a role player, and one is arguably a top 10 NBA player given the strength of his two way game.

Curry, Harden, Durant, Lebron, Cousins, Davis, Westbrook, PG, Thompson, Leonard. Somewhere after 10 Butler fits in with guys like Lowry, Derozen, Lillard, LA, Wall, Paul.

Outside of Harden really, who in that top ten isn't a great two way player?
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Skill wise I think Butler is an A and Crowder is a B

Contract wise I think Crowder is an A and Bulter is a B

Fit wise Crowder is perfect.  Why fix what isn't broken?

To me it's not a huge difference in most of their game.  Like others have said, Butler really is way better off the dribble.  Crowder is younger and already made a nice jump on offense last year I think.  If Crowder shows more off the dribble he could be as good and making a lot less.  This team needs guys who can create their own shots so the opportunity will be there.  Crowder showed some flashes last year.

Personally I'm not in favor of Butler unless it's a good value.  I just think he is not good enough to cash in our assets on.

Butler can create his own shot and is slightly more athletic. Otherwise, they're the same.

Curry as well.

I know a there's a crowd that thinks he's pretty good on defense (I think they're off base) but I don't possibly see how anyone would say he was near great.  The term is being overused if he qualifies.

I would have Kyrie up on that list too and he's terrible on defense for the most part (did make a few plays in the Playoffs).

These are the kind of guys that good defenses cover for.  Rondo was never as good of a defender as advertised to me in a similar way.  Helps playing with KG or Green.
