Per KC Johnson of the Chicago Tribune, the Celtics offered the #3, #16, and Crowder for Butler, but were not willing to include AB or Smart.

Would you have done this deal?

At first, this seems like a lot to ask for, but I think we ultimately would've had enough assets to recover from the loss of Crowder and Butler, and assuming Butler might've been enough to convince Durant to sign with us (longshot) this trade would've been more than worth it IMO.

Butler would have been our SF probably why the celtics were willing to give all that up. Butler is an upgrade over all those guys I feel.  I'm happy with Jaylen but Butler is a better player. Okafor not so sure.

Crowder people overvalue imo.  He is a very good player but is replaceable. Butler is a much better player.

We have a lot of pf's and options there . Losing Yab is also not a huge deal.

No - I would have included AB, but not Crowder. After seeing the contracts going around this season (and what is likely to come next year), you better be sure you are getting a superstar in return if you are trading 2/5 of the best contracts in the game along with the #3 (and #16 pick).

Ricky Butler is good, but not that good.

Durant was also still in play at that point people have to remember.  Getting Butler plus Horford may have enticed Durant.

Butlers value now is lower than it was to us imo.

I agree, and apparently Danny didn't mind putting him on the trading block. The question is, would you have been willing to include either AB or Smart on top of that?

No i would not trade Smart for Butler.  I believe Smart is that good potentially and could be one of the best guards in the league.  Why I'm not buying the westbrook hype either.

I might move Isaiah for Westbrook but not smart.

I would not trade Smart period.

Nope.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I guess the debate of AB or Crowder comes down to contract. Im in the camp that thinks bradley is a much better player than crowder. However Crowder's deal lasts longer, making it extremely valuable in the current nba.

I still like bradley.

3 + 16 + Crowder for Butler is a fair offer, in my opinion.

Have to keep one of Bradley and Crowder to keep from gutting the wing too much.

Offering more than one of the BRK picks would have been an overpay.  Especially since we didn't know if the Celts would get a max level guy in free agency.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Would consider Crowder, #16, #23, and the Memphis 2019.  That's it.

I enjoy many of your takes.  I am a fan of Smart also, but I am not sure he has the potential you think he has.  Defensively he's there.  Is it that you believe his shot will come around?  If so, why the confidence?

I just think he fits us really well and can pair with a lot of players. If there is going to be one player who can punch curry in the mouth it's Smart.  I just like the idea of having physical guards.

We aren't going to outscore some of these ridiculous teams in and of itself.  Smart to me is a difference maker between winning and losing to me. We need scoring around him and physical defenders too.
