We need to stop screwing around and just get Okafor already

Shockingly, I actually agree.

I've been as strongly against Okafor as anybody - really do not like him as a player.  But now that we have Horford who can stretch the floor, and who offers some defensive versatility, it actually helps to hide most of Okafor's flaws.

We really don't have anybody available on this roster who is worthy of starting (Sully is a disaster. Olynyk is too foul prone, Amir is too questionable health wise, Mickey isn't experienced enough and Jerebko isn't starting caliber) so we need SOMEBODY. 

Okafor isn't optimal, but with Horford standing out on the perimeter much of he time, Okafor would be free to bang down low all he wants...and I feel better about his possible attitude concerns knowing he'd be playing alongside a grounded veteran like Horford.  I feel like he's a guy Okafor could learn a lot from.

I'd be just as happy with Noel also to be honest - either would be fine with Horford.  We just need somebody...with talent.  I don't want to see Ainge turning down perfectly fair deals just because he wants the satisfaction of knowing he's ripped off the other GM.  The deals reported for Okafor/Noel around draft time were perfectly fair IMHO - Noel/Okafor, Covington and two late firsts for #3.  I don't understand how Ainge criticised that deal.  It's not a "steal" sure, but it's fair on both teams...
We're kinda pretty desperate for a backup SF to replace turner as well, so Covington wouldn't be a terrible option.

Just not sure what the deal would change to now that Kris Dunn is no longer available to us as a trade chip.

You can argue it was fair at the time, but now, NO WAY would I give up a BKN pick.  Philly is in a bad negotiating position and it's getting worse as the summer goes along.  Give them a non-BKN now instead.  Also, prefer Noel over Okafor.  Nerlens is a local boy and is higher "character" guy than Okafor.

This between comparison between Okafor and Nerlens shows that except for the fact that Okafor shot more shots last year than Nerlens, that Noel is by far the better all around player. Noel also has DPOY potential and in Stevens defensive system could have 3 BPG and 3 SPG type possibilities. That's a lot of possession creations.

Okafor has a knowledge of more offensive moves but Nerlens shoots at about the same overall rate. I think Nerlens could, in Brad's system, finish off pick and rolls and be a garbage man(offensive rebound put backer) to the tune of 12 PPG and that would be good offense for a defensive anchor and yet another defensive superstar.

A Noel/Horford front line would be a huge improvement over the Sully/Amir frontline from last year that I am convinced this team, if it stays healthy could win another 6-10 games.

So Noel for maybe the Memphis pick and Rozier and throw in a couple of late second rounders from next year would be good to me if the front office thinks D. Jackson could replace Rozier as our backup PG.

Noel is a classic rim diving, catch and dunk big. He hasn't shown any propensity to finish other types of looks reliably.

Yeah, I agree, Okafor is such a dynamic player. I went back and watched highlights (yeah, I know) to see if there was something I was missing and he looked even better than I remembered. I like Noel and would happily consider him if he and Okafor had the same years remaining on their contracts, but they don't.

If we make a trade for, say, Butler, we can't be forced to pay Noel $20M+ next year when there are other free agents available who are more desirable. The Okafor contract will take us until 2019 - past the contracts of IT, AB, and Smart. It is also why I see a guy like KO possibly being traded this off-season/trade deadline - I just don't think we can afford to give major money to mediocre/good (not great) players.

I am not interested in adding a defense-only player like Nerlens Noel alongside Al Horford.

Horford is a very talented center. A two way player. That allows us to put a PF next to him. A position where it is much easier to find two-way players and then put two skilled big men on the floor together who play both ends of the court.

Now that Horford is here, we should turn our attentions away from a center like Noel and look to acquire a PF (or two way center) to put alongside Al Horford.

Yep, we'll see a lot of fictitious trade scenarios around celticsblog involving Westbrook, Butler, Okafor, Wade, or Cousins where the Celtics offer a package of James Young, Kelly Olynk and the 2019 Memphis pick.

Crabbe is the guy we wish Young would become.  But Crabbe is already good enough for the NBA now.

Rozier or Jackson both looking good in SL -- neither are Dunn, but both have NBA starter potential. I think either would be good fit in Philly. 

Also, Smart for Okafor or Noel sounds good. Smart plus Clips 2019. Or Smart plus Rozier/Jackson.

Okafor was a 20/10 kid at the start of last season. Then they started mixing him with Noel at the 4-5, and his numbers went down, especially rebounds.

Uh hello, Stevens just helped land Al Horford.  One of the best bigs in the NBA today. 
Stevens likes bigs well enough, but the availability of quality bigs is scarce.

Didn't we push back the guarantee date on Amir and Jonas to July 7th?  Doesn't that mean that if we want to use our additional cap space (by renouncing those guys), we have today to do it - otherwise they become guaranteed contracts?

Things that make you go hmmm.  Considering how bananas the prices are on the market for free agents, that second tier, how much are they going to cost?  I am quite interested in the Blazers Allen Crabbe SG, RFA, shot over 39% from 3pt.
