I love the move. The Celtics won their offseason regardless of the KD. They attracted a major free agent and kept all their assets.

This ^^^^^^

He's still pretty much the biggest signing in Celtics free agent history (that is in their prime) and we haven't lost anyone valuable

Smart & Brown will take over Turners minutes while Horford will give us the inside outside big man that can score consistently and defend at a high rate.

Still plenty of players available that we can sign plus we can always trade for one more

Horford is a Celtic.... we support our own.

Go Celtics !!!!

Exactly, we should have a Horford appreciation topic where everyone here can let him know how happy we are to have him in Green..these past few days we shed the reputation of being an undesired location for a star to come to but Horford saw the value in leaving the only team he had ever been with to chase glory with our Celtics...

Huge upgrade

Solid 55 win team.

I'm stoked.

We can resign Amir and JJ, add a vet shooter on mle and keep building through the draft.
Thanks Brooklyn :)

Still a massive signing. Always been a fan of Al and his fit with the makeup and culture of our team is undeniable. The signing was unprecedented and changed the entire outlook of the franchise. Its so rare for a playoff team to be able to infuse so much talent into their roster without giving up assets or needing to change how they operate(like we would have with Whiteside).

Been listening to the The Dunc'd On Realgm podcast and hearing the change in tone of how they talk about the Celtics since signing Horford is just incredible. I always felt they've never quite fully "bought in" to Stevens and the outlook. Danny Lareiux mentioned that he didn't feel like the assets we've been collecting fit with each other. Now they talk about us as right there with Toronto as the 2 seed in the East and we still have 2 potential high lottery picks and Memphis' pick which they noted could be a high lotto come 2021 when it becomes unprotected and their core will be aged.

Signing Horford is the lynch pin that makes all of the other moves since the Brooklyn trade make sense.

Exactly.  We're a better team today than we were in April, and we didn't have to trade away anything to get there.  We still have $10 million in cap room today to add another depth piece, or we can keep one of Sullinger and Zeller.

And next year we're still in line to get another high lottery pick in a great draft, and we have max free agent room.  We might not have taken the huge jump to title contender this summer, but we took a significant step closer, and it's not difficult to see the next step on the horizon.

This "championship or nothing" mentality makes no sense. You can never guarantee a championship. And who thought GS would be this good before Green became a top player and Curry took it to the next level?

That's actually kind of my angle on this, too.

We get to watch a really great team first big man for the first time since KG left.

But we also probably have to adjust our long term goals.

If Danny plays his cards right we might get the chance to face the Warriors in the Finals sometime in the next five years.  Even if the Celts get crushed, that'll still be a huge accomplishment.

The Horford signing is fantastic.  It in no way should be dependent on other signings.  He is a perfect fit for our needs and our system.

Wow, I guess I am clearly in the minority on this one.  I was never that excited about signing Horford, now I am less.  I guess I held out some hope that Horford would lead to Durant but I never thought the odds of that were very high.

No doubt that Horford is a short term upgrade at a position of need (PF) but he is a declining asset (potentially rapidly declining).  The best outcome may be to have him play well for one season then we trade him in a package for Cousins or Butler or something like that.

It's fine. He's a really good player and what else were we doing with that cap space anyway?

I hope he plays center. Otherwise we spent 113 million dollars on a pf that is gonna hinder the development of our glut of other pf's.  I think Danny made this move to lure KD and it backfired.  It'd be nice to sign someone else though.

Which PFs are we trying to develop, exactly?

I feel great about it too.  I just thought it was an interesting question to ask.

Having Horford locked up makes the Celts a reasonable suitor for every superstar that becomes available for the next couple years, at least.  The Celts are one superstar away from competing with Cleveland for a chance to get stomped by the Warriors in the Finals.
