And the jilted lover name calling begins.  Grow up people!

Can't speak for anyone else but I'd be just as disappointed in Durant if we were never under consideration.  This is LeBron to Miami x10.  Joining a 73 win team that's already won a chip is ring-chasing and taking the easy way out at the most extreme we'll ever see it.

Exactly. This has been the sentiment the entire time on this blog. There wouldn't be this reaction if he went back to OKC. There'd be disappoint, but it would make sense. GS doesn't make sense since this will ultimately ruin his perception in the league as a top-3 player.
Except, we were getting this same reaction on this board in the 30 window when it looked like Horford was going back to ATL.

So really, it doesn't matter all that much;  celtic fan was going to spew hate regardless.  The justification was the only variable here.
Pretty much.

If I had to guess, I'd have to say we probably received fairly slim consideration. Fundamentally, our offer wasn't much different from OKC's, and he probably would have gone back to OKC before coming here. The rhetoric around here was mostly the blog hyping itself up.
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

I'd think this place would be dissappointed but understood the fact that he wanted to try again with his old team. Horford would going back to a place where Millsap and Howard were still there.

Again, I speak only for myself, but I was here defending Horford when it looked like he was going to take the Hawks deal.  The idea that he should somehow be so loyal to a team he wasn't actually part of yet that he should pass on tens of millions to play there seemed ridiculous.  Of course Al was nice enough to do that anyway  :)

But in a sense you're right - in a blog with hundreds of active posters, someone's going to complain about basically any possible development.  That doesn't really strengthen the case that this reaction was all due to jilting, though.  I never thought we had more than a small chance of landing Durant, and I was far from the only one.  And we all knew we had 0 chance of getting LeBron in 2010, but he still got at least as much criticism here for going to the Heat.

And yeah, I would be lying if I didn't understand that Durant's decision did indeed draw some extra hate nationwide.  From that perspective, worse than Lebron.

Being an OKC/Durant/Boston fan, I'd like to know how Endless Paradise is feeling right now. Did you see this coming? How do you feel about him moving to Golden State?

Expected him to stay, would've respected him leaving for any other team besides Golden State. Frontrunning move that diminishes his stature in my irrelevant and subjective player rankings. He's still the second-best player in the league, in my eyes, but the gulf between him and LeBron widens significantly.

He's definitely taken a hit as far as being my favorite player. Just seems like a such a weak move on his part. I don't hate him or even dislike him, but he just seems pretty corny to me now.

TP. I was really interested to see an actual OKC fan's perspective. Glad to see it's similar to the majority opinion here.

That's absolute BS. It's been explicitly discussed many times on here how OKC, Boston, or San Antonio would all be legitimate, respected options for him that made sense. We all pretty much agreed that while it would suck to see him not choose Boston, you couldn't blame him for joining those teams.

Golden State was an entirely different situation, and there's absolutely no argument that anything else is the case. We had an entire thread dedicated to this very dialogue, so, yes, it does matter no matter how much you don't want it to.

And the Horford thing was a totally different situation, as well. It was being reported that he was essentially just leveraging us and choosing the absolute worse basketball situation just for the money. That's, once again, a totally different situation than people just being mad at him for not choosing us.

So, perhaps the "jilted lover" here.. Context matters, and you don't just get to interpret however you want to fit your argument. There's a word for that - confirmation bias..  ::)

Golden State and Oklahoma City were really the only two franchises that made sense from a basketball perspective.  Boston didn't have enough high end talent and San Antonio just seemed like a weird fit with Durant, Aldridge and Leonard.

I really have no idea why people didn't see the fit or the appeal of the Warriors.  They have top tier talent and have a need for a SF like Durant.  There is afterall a reason that pretty much everyone in the media said his choice was between a return to the Thunder or going to Warriors.  Those are and always were the two teams that made the most basketball sense.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

A 73 win team needed someone like Durant?

i understand the criticism of KD going to GSW, however, i don't have a problem with it at all for these reasons:

1. GSW looks like a fun place to play.  the players, coaches, and front office all appear genuinely to enjoy the atmosphere and milieu. (this goes back even before their recent success)

2. they have a great fan base

3. they are successful and competitive

4. this is the MOST important reason i don't have a problem with KD's decision.....the style of play the GSW play with, caters to KD's strengths more than any other team in the entire league.

Comparing him to LBJ to MIA is a stretch and inaccurate imo.  KD didn't make a big spectacle, nor did he come off as a DB the way LBJ did (i.e, "Im taking my talents to South Beach" crap during an hour long televised "special").

the Celts didn't have a prayer in landing KD and I felt that way all year long.  Don't drink the Danny/Wyc kool aid....hold them accountable and demand more than what they have promised.  I have been patient the last few years, and this was their first moment for me to hold them accountable, as it is the first time we see what they do with the $ we have and the picks.  A whole lot of lip service up to this point.  As a fan base, we should hold them accountable and demand more.
