lol at everyone on here saying the 4-time scoring champion with an MVP award ruined his legacy by going to a team where he'll have a good chance at winning a championship.
i mean, do you think this WON'T tarnish his reputation?
Of course it will.
It definitely won't hurt his legacy. Everyone cried the same story when Lebron jumped to Miami and everyone was wrong then, too.
If Durant's decision today had been to retire, he'd be a first ballot HoF'er and probably be considered one of the top 25 players of all time. Whether or not you like the decision, going to GS doesn't change ny of that.
Lebron didn't go to a 73 win team that just knocked him out of the playoffs to play 2nd (or 3rd) fiddle to the reigning MVP. This is much more egregious. He will be remembered as a guy afraid of competition and wanted to be handed rings in the middle of his prime. There is nothing great or inspirational about that.
Bron and Bosh joined a 47 win team (that had to dump key contributors to make cap space) that hadn't been out of the first round of the playoffs in 4 seasons.
That would be like if Durant and Horford joined this 48 win team, honestly. Very little difference. The main reason people freak out about LeBron's decision is the method he did it and the parade they held the day after.
What Durant did is obscenely spineless on a whole nother level. It would be like if in 2010, after the Celtics knocked off the Cavs and narrowly lost to the Lakers in Game 7, LeBron decided, "Well I don't think I'm ever getting over this Celtics hump - so I'm signing with them".
The difference: The Celtics had won 50 games that year, Ray Allen was 34 years old, Paul pierce was 32 years old and Kevin Garnett was 33 years old.
On the flip side: The warriors won 73 games this year, Steph Curry is 27 years old, Draymond Green is 25 years old and Klay Thompson is 25 years old.
Ooh... and lets not forget that the Thunder were up 3-1 against the Warriors in the Conference Finals and choked it away. We knocked off the Cavs in 6 games during the 2nd round back in 2010. Bron could have been slightly forgiven if he decided his path past Boston was too difficult and he needed to join them to succeed in life.
I mean, at the very least, Bron and Bosh formed their own thing with Wade. It wasn't even guaranteed to work. Their supporting cast was trash. They had to give away a 21 year old who had been taken 2nd in the draft and was coming off a season averaging 15 points and 6 rebounds. That would be like if Boston had to just give away Marcus Smart for a 2nd rounder to make space for Durant and Horford.
Bottom line: This is by far the most disgustingly anti-competitive bush-league thing I've ever seen someone do in Sports. Durant will be crucified for it and rightly so. This is a loser mentality. It's literally "can't beat em/join em". He should be booed aggressively everywhere he goes.
