Im sure people will think Im a fool, but I honestly don't see how this move made GS a better "team". KD is shooter, one of the best in the league, but GS didn't exactly need another scorer... scoring simply wasn't their problem. You have just added a third volume shooter to a team with two volume shooters already on it, but last time I checked its still just one ball. This falls apart next season when Curry is now averaging 18pts a game but want the max contract. Iggy will also demand a max contract. This team is also now paper thin with no quality off of the bench, especially bigs with Bogut and Ezeli likely out this off season. To be honest this just doesn't move the needle much in my regard.

This is the same type of paper GM-ing people did when Love joined the Cavs and the only thing that has happened is Love, once perceived as one of the leagues best, is now seen as damaged goods.

Yep!

We actually needed him. Golden State didn't. It's all going to unravel. He'll be opting out next summer. And I hope we completely ignore him.

haha you mean you hope we have reason to ignore him... :) because either way as you said, we needed him and might still do...

lets see what jaylen brown brings to the table ^^

Frankly, if I could choose between Durant coming to Boston and Brown turning into a star, I'd rather have the latter. Always feels better when one of your best players is homegrown.

Oh, definitely. I would take that a step further and say I would rather Jaylen Brown max out at Jimmy Butler level than Durant come here as a FA. While neither is likely (there's always next year for Durant), I agree that having your own player turn into a star is the most exciting.

And makes it easier for you to later engage in salary cap shenanigans to form a superteam!

I don't care if we desperately need him more than ever.

Screw him, permanently. Nothing reveals character like the choice he just made. He's not a man. He has no testicles. He may not even be a vertebrate since he has no spine. He's a new-school brat who feels entitled to triumphs and if they win the title he will actually celebrate without any nagging feeling like he compromised his honor because he has no honor.

Just looking at historical context of #3 choices, along with the fact that he's in a really favorable position with the C's, I would put the odds at 50/50 that Jaylen Brown becomes a better player than Jimmy Butler

I fully understand the inclination to call the move of joining a team that just won 73 games and knocked your former team out of the playoffs "cowardly."  Initially, I shared that sentiment.  The more I think about it, though, the more I have come to accept this as an honorable decision  by Durant.

KD made it clear that he was going to join (or stay with) the team that gave him the best chance of winning.  He rightfully believes he'll be able to compete for titles in Golden State.  Despite the hyperbolic prevailing opinion currently permeating Celtics Blog, however, I don't think the Warriors are going to be handed nor guaranteed any titles over the next few years.  They'll have to earn it.  The Cavs will certainly stand in their way, the Spurs will likely continue to battle out west, the Clippers--if healthy--are still going to be a formidable threat, and one or two other teams could emerge out of the mass to move up the ranks and challenge the big boys.

As someone who has been a high level athlete all his life, who is used to competing, I'm sure Kevin Durant is well aware that to win an NBA championship, he is going to have to work like heck and fight like heck to earn one.  He knows it won't be handed to him, even if he does play for the team with the best odds on paper.  It sounds corny, but championships are indeed not won on paper. They are won on the court.

The rest of the NBA is now surely going to galvanize towards stopping the mighty Warriors.  They will have to prove themselves on a nightly basis.  The pressure will be on.  Durant wanted that challenge.  Now he's got it.  I sure won't be rooting for Golden State next season, but I can respect Kevin Durant's decision to join them.

Go to Golden State to get his ring? I'm totally cool with that. His money, his life.

Claiming that he's doing it for personal growth? That's the dick move.

So it sounds like it's a 1 year with a 1 year player option..

Maybe he bails in a year after the criticism gets to him

Probably not

But a man can dream

If he called wanting to join the Celtics I hope they hang up the phone on him.  Dude is a beta chucker who hasn't proven squat at the end of games that matter.  This decision solidifies him as the biggest anti-competitive joke in league history .

With Okc or Celts maybe he disproves that.  With Warriors he is just another shooter.  They don't require his skill set to win.

There is nothing "honorable" about it.

The problem is Durant's hypocrisy. When he was losing to the Lakers or Miami, he called out the players on those teams for chasing rings by changing teams. Now, he is doing that. I do not judge players for doing that unless they tweeted their objects to other doing it.

I had zero problem with Lebron apart from "The Decision". I had zero problem with Bosh. I had zero problem with Malone and Payton, though that did work out. I would have no issue with Durant if not for his past holier-than-thou comments.

You know what, I'm okay with it. That Warriors team will be fun to watch with all of the skill and offensive firepower

Also, the C's played a big role in this. If OKC managed to land Horford, KD likely re-ups there.

Ray actually had a good reason to leave the Celtics. He was constantly getting shopped around the league.
