Incredibly disappointed, and would make him an incredible coward.

Please. So you wouldn't be excited if next year at this time he again showed interest in the Celtics?

It wouldn't change my opinion of this decision, but I'd welcome him with open arms. He'd still be a coward, trying to hide himself behind other people so that he doesn't have to carry the burden and the spotlight.

It's what Westbrook does for him right now, but on a lower scale. It'll be what Curry and others will do for him in Golden State with the caveat that he'd be a ring chasing, in his prime, in a very disdainful way.

Let me put it this way, as a fan of purely the NBA, The Warriors would be one of the worst teams I'd like to see Durant joining in the NBA, and I'm actually quite a big fan of this Warriors team. I want to see this Warriors team do well, but this would be a cheap way of accomplishing it.

And I'll add, Durant going to the Warriors would be like Ray Allen going to the Heat but times 1,000.

Bittersweet:

Part of me will be disappointed that one of the best players in the world resorted into riding the coattails of a strong team to win.

But, since I support the Warriors, I'm going to be pretty relieved.

Help me...

This is one of the only threads that I've ever seen a near unanimous answer to a question here on CB. Seems we'd all be disappointed, but mainly at Durant for making a cheap move that lessens his integrity as a superstar NBA player.

Is it safe to say he downgraded from superstar to a mere star if he does this?

I like watching young teams improve and get better.  Watching the celtics would be fun in that regard.  We'd really have no choice.  I don't think getting Paul George would hurt but he isn't competing with that.  It would really be on our young guys to really improve which it should be anyways.  I like teams that play hard and our team does that way and would have to be even more that.

We'd really have to be like the 70's celtics and have a style of play that is just totally balls to the wall.

I'll be bummed that the C's came pretty close to a franchise altering signing and it didn't happen.  But I'll get over it quickly and hopefully there will be some positive news afterward.  I don't care who he plays for as long as it's not the Lakers.

If he goes there, I don't care about him anymore but I'd say it's a stupid decision tactically speaking.  In order for Golden State to afford him they would have to cut/renounce everybody who is a pending free agent.

It would be a skeleton crew of Durant, 6 other golden state warriors veterans, 2 rookies, and 6 players on veterans minimum.  That would be an ugly team!  ZERO depth!

Step 8: Renounce Harrison Barnes.

Step 9: Renounce free-agent cap holds
Electing to renounce the cap holds on Mareesse Speights, Leandro Barbosa, Brandon Rush, James McAdoo, Ian Clark, Jermaine O’Neal and Ognen Kuzmic would free up $17 million in cap space. The players renounced could only sign for the minimum or midlevel room if Golden State elected to bring them back.

It's a tough situation for him because that team was already kinda set up for a dynasty. I mean they could win the next 3 titles and KD wouldn't get a ton of credit. It would be Steph entering the GOAT convo while KD Dray and Klay fought for the right to be the wade to his Lebron.

However if he loses he will face a ton of criticism because it's already a 73 win team coming off back to back finals appearances.

Find a new sport to watch.   I stopped watching euro football for exactly this reason.    No competition is boring.

I agree with you because if he does head to California, that team is still going to be Curry's.  You would think he wants to command his own team, as he pretty much has with OKC all these years (with Russ being a very tight 2nd...but everyone knows it's KD's team).  Is he truly willing to take a backseat and lose credit for events in a career?  Maybe not all credit, but a large portion of it.

No way. He's still an awesome, MVP caliber player. A generational scoring talent. That doesn't change if he makes a decision that is inconsistent with how we might prefer for superstars to steer their careers. If he wins multiple titles instead of following in the footsteps of Malone, Nash, and Barkley, I doubt he will mind.

I don't think so. He certainly isn't going to have superstar stats anymore, and he might not even be the best guy on his team anymore.

I respect players that don't sacrifice their integrity in their prime as a MVP-caliber player to chase rings. He'll absolutely make that downgrade if he decides to chase rings on the coattails of the Warriors than lead his own championship venture.

I just don't see how he suddenly stops being a great player just because he decides that getting the most touches on offense is less important to him than winning championships.

I think he added a lot of legitimacy to us as a free agent destination.

This would be the all time free agent pile on.  They won 73 games last year.
