I'm just throwing this out there as a last resort if everything else turns to dust: How about Dirk on a gross overpay near max dollar 1+1 contract? He was still 18 pts and 6.5 rbs in 31 mpg. He just turned 38 so we can give him one final shot to get to a conference final. He can't get that in Dallas. We will need to get to the salary floor anyway if we have struck out with Horford, Durant etc..

I would be shocked if he chose to leave the Mavs. Dirk is too loyal to even consider leaving.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

That's interesting because I hadn't considered the possibility of bringing him in if free agency is a huge success rather than a huge failure. He would have to play for peanuts but it might be something he would do to compete for a championship. I also agree with the other poster that he is very loyal to Dallas but they might not be as loyal to him.

Obviously great, but that's asking a lot of the salary cap or for them to take some pay cuts.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

I always though he opted out so Dallas could get him some help to sign a cheaper deal for them.

Although not likely, I read somewhere last night that DWade was offered $10M from the Heat and has 4 offers from other teams for $20M.  Loyalty?

Yeah but they keep failing to put that money he's saving them to good use. Could be time they both just decide to go separate ways--no animosity and he'll be back on Cube's payroll as soon as he retires unless he's not already on the roll for some Bahamanian offshore company.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.
