I said on that day that Celtics fans would be the last to see the magnitude of what just happened to them (it's like when Ogaju was the only one around here who saw Doc's debacle coming). But don't take this as a "gotcha" or "I told you so" thread because it's not. If anything, I'm still saddened about how the whole thing unfolded. If nothing happened in free agency (and it is looking like nothing will happen), we would've taken the satisfaction of nailing Jimmy Buttler or Okafor or Nerlens or Okafor and Nerlenes. That would've have been huge to build on going forward.
My prediction is what happened (or didn't happen) at the draft will impact the team for years. Any trade that would net us any decent star would now cost us a arm and a leg. That price Ainge didn't want to pay is now be doubled. The value put on all the picks we have/had and our "assets" were extremely overrated. And instead of cashing in to actually get some value for it, we snoozed. Stop giving Danny Ainge a pass. He's getting paid millions of dollars to get results, not to play head games.
I probably won't forget it. I thought all Ainge needed to do was go 1 for 6. When it's all said & done, I won't be surprised if he goes 3 for 6. I love a lot of these picks.
Add that with the fact that he hasn't strapped us with bad contracts on guys like Bradley, Crowder, IT4, and Amir, & we're set up quite nicely to compete for stars in free agency. I love next years free agent crop more than this year, so I'm patient.
I want a championship team for awhile, not a rushed Brooklyn Net mess.
I'd sign Ainge to a 20 yr deal.
