any idea what the plans of the Nets in this free agency were?
I initially assumed they would go after every good FA, even at the risk of overpaying, because they had little to lose.
But they looks were very modest.
I think the plan was to go big after some young players who could be ready to take a step or two forward, but otherwise go with some cheaper veterans on shorter deals, and see if they mesh together well enough to win more than expected, and are able to convince a bigger free agent next summer that they aren't as bad as their reputation currently is. They'll have about $50 million in cap room, so if they are unexpectedly competitive, then that might help them when most teams will have less to spend.
I don't think it will work (and I don't really think they do either, but what have they to lose?), and I think that Lopez gets moved at the trade deadline.
