Considering the following things:

1. He will be an RFA next year and PHI has three centers (they may not match)
2. Nerlens is (at least I've heard) a huge BOS fan, and would jump at a chance to be a Celtic

Is it possible that Danny is thinking we will end up with Noel anyway without having to give up a thing?  We may have to wait a little, whether during Free Agency, Trade Deadline, or maybe when PHI possibly chooses not to match a good contract number (if Embiid is healthy, does very well and they want to keep both Oak and Embiid).

We get to take a chance with Jaylen Brown, and possibly get Noel later anyway.

What do you guys think?

I think Noel will continue to be very available. I just don't want him and his impending five-year, 125 million contract.

That possibility is the only reason I am not calling for Ainge to be fired.

This. I'm not too keen on maxing out Nerlens.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

He is precisely the player you don't want to have - somebody who's just good enough to demand a max contract but doesn't actually give you any value added at that level. He's also hitting free agency at exactly the wrong time, where the size of max contracts skyrockets and plenty of teams have money to throw at him just for the purposes of screwing us over.

He's more or less a ticking time bomb at this point. Philly will move him at the deadline (or before the season) for a deal that makes us think "wow, that's it?"

We could definitely get him by sending a good player their way, but I doubt Danny will.  We could sign him in free agency or send a low pick and a guy like Rozier their way around the trade deadline
I'm bitter.

This is important to keep in mind: Philly still needs to trade some centers and it sounds like they got a reality check last night in terms of how much they're worth. That's good for the Celtics who still have a lot of young talent and should still be in the market for someone like Noel. I'm optimistic this means the C's can get him for a good deal before the season starts.

Maybe flip that Clippers pick, the Memphis pick, Rozier, Young, and Hunter with a little additional begging on our knees?  :-[

I think Ainge can get him right now if he wants to, we have more than enough assets to do it and Noel is available. It's just a question of whether Ainge wants to use our assets on Noel or is waiting for better options.

Fire Ainge after they extended him.   HAHA.     No one knows how the draft shakes out until a year or so.......     Can't wait to see how summer league, FA process goes.  Since one year rebuild after the trade we have only gotten better.   So far so good.   They are doing a good job running this business/team.

Looks like Phili didn't knock down PHX or Minnies door for the #4 or #5 either.

This is my thought process as well.

The fact he might be a fan too might entice him not to get a max but still get a good amount of money.  I'm not exactly sure what the numbers would be for his tenure so far in the NBA, but maybe his being a fan might help.  If players can take a discount to try to help win a championship, why wouldn't some players want to take a discount to simply live out a dream?  It's not like we're going to pay him the vet min or anything close to that, we're just not going to pay him the max.  We'll pay him appropriately for what his skill set brings to the table.

After last nights frustration

I really don't think DA will ever bring in spend for anyone over 6 foot 8 inches . P

He is just hard headed thinking he can hang a banner with all guards .......it will never happen .....he is wasting our time.

Time for new direction.

I would offer Rozier, Olynyk, Jerebko or Hunter, Yabusele, Zizic and the Clippers pick for Noel. Gives them a point guard, 3pt range off the bench, and decent to good defense. replaces Noel with a center that can put up good numbers in 20-25 minutes, and a guy to stash in Yabusele.

The Clippers pick in three years may actually be worth something--CP will be 33 or 34 and Blake Griffin will be about 30 that season--it probably falls in the 15-18 range (low playoff seeded range) unless the team gets drastically better in free agency the next couple of years.

We are basically trading good 2-way bench pieces, and a possible starter in Rozier if his offense catches up to his defense (he showed good signs of development at the end of the season), for a strong defensive starter caliber--but limited offensive caliber center, and giving a probably decent pick for good measure.

There may need to be a third team involved because of financial reasons but something like this could probably work simply because the 76ers have Simmons and Embiid (or Okafor) to build around assuming Embiid has a healthy year. Both if healthy will probably be rookie of the year candidates. So what the team really needs is players to surround them with.
