2019 first round draft pick from L.A. Clippers
If at least two years after the L.A. Clippers conveyed a 1st round pick to Toronto, then the L.A. Clippers' 1st round pick to Memphis protected for selections 1-14 in 2019 and 1-14 in 2020; if the L.A. Clippers have not conveyed a 1st round pick to Memphis by 2020, then the L.A. Clippers will instead convey their 2022 2nd round pick to Memphis [L.A. Clippers-Memphis, 2/18/2016]

Ouch.

That's not an ouch.  A lottery protected 1st is worth two seconds from a team that should finish out of the lottery.  I suppose if Paul and Griffin leave it could be an ouch, but it's unlikely.

The issue I have is that it leaves us with very, very little upside. Davis is a solid enough prospect that I highly doubt we even find a prospect better in 3 years if the pick conveys.

Danny Ainge's brain is average too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funniest thing I've read tonight. TP.

Davis was the first pick tonight that I had some excitement for—a legit big, and he's not a draft-and-stash—so of course Danny trades him. And for peanuts.

The problem is that we are waiting so long for that pick!  And it's lotto protected as well.
If it were a 1st rounder in the rumored to be stacked 2017 draft, I'd really like that trade!

Plus, if Davis turns out to be a good player, we will be kicking ourselves.

The long-term wait avoiding a roster crunch is the best thing about the trade.  A 2017 first might be a home run, but it's ok to hit a single every now and then.

This is quickly devolving into the WORST Celtics' draft I have EVER followed and I am 51 and have followed quite a few of them!!!!

Smitty77

I have been supporting Danny all the way, and even jumped on board last year with the highly controversial picks...but I have got to say that seeing what just unfolded makes me feel incredibly depressed and honestly a bit mad.

We've been desperately in need of an athletic, defensive big man since as far back as I can remember, had a chance to get Nerlens Noel (a 22 year old with DPOTY potential) and additional assets, and turned it down.

Then our selection came up, and we had a chance to draft Dunn (the most likely All-Star talent in the draft available at #3) and we passed on him to draft Brown - one of the higher risk (and less NBA ready) guys in the top of the draft, and one who is seemingly just a larger version of Marcus Smart.

Then at #16 we still have a host of guys on the board who could fill needs (Davis, Johnson, Labissiere, Ellenson) and we draft the one thing that I thought we had finally manage to rid ourselves of completely gotten away from - a freaking 6'7" undersized PF.  I would have preferred they take a shot on Ellenson and hope he surprises and becomes a Kevin Love / David Lee type...

Then taking a stash guy at #23 who I don't feel has the greatest amount of upside...but it's ok becaus eI thought Davis might still be available at 30 - and he was!  So they trade him to Memphis!

What the hell, seriously.

The only picked I actually like was Jackson at #45 - couldn't believe they got him so late.

As for the trade thing, I'm seriously starting to lose faith in Ainge.  I held on for sooo long, gave him the benefit of the doubt.  But you see Orlando pulling in Ibaka, Teague going for #12, Young going for #20 (when we actually really need a PF) - yet Danny couldn't pull off a single trade?

We took Yabusele at #16 when we could have had Thadeus Young?  Has Danny completely lost his mind?!?!

Could have had Deyonta Davis and gave him up for a top 14 protector Clippers pick - why?  When is a pick beyond 14 ever worth anything? We may as well have just gambled on Davis.

*sigh*

Anyway as insane as this day has been, I'm not going to castrate DA until the offseason is compete - just in case there is something big we don't know about (yeah, like that's going to happen..)

Just thinking that the #3 and #16 could have brought us Nerlens Noel and Thadeus Young...a very solid front court that would have fit perfectly together.  Depressing..

Anybody ask why 30 other teams passed on him???

This guy isn't very smart nor does he have much BB IQ. He's just tall and athletic.

He doesn't exactly fit the mold of the current Celtics.

When crimson didn't like the draft, you know Danny messed up.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

What's Danny's problem with athletic big guys?  It's like he has a weird fetish for short guys that play a little defense and can't shoot.

Sad to say, I'm starting to feel you on that.

All I can say is I sure hope that either (1) Brown becomes a superstar or (2) Danny has a massive FA signing lined up that we don't know about...

Because if not I'm going to be fuming and will join the LarBrd33 cult of explicitly hating all things Danny Ainge...and I'll even transfer to supporting the 76ers (ok I won't really, but [dang])
