Market for Nerlens Noel seems to be far overstated by some. More likely he fetches a late lottery pick in a trade as opposed to top-5 pick.

And someone said I was crazy for proposing Noel, Saric, and LAL 2017 for 3, Young and Hunter!

Honestly I hope we can roll all of this Philly stuff in to a 3-way trade with Chicago. I don't want any of the Philly bigs but Chicago might. Something like

Noel+Covington+Bradley to Chicago
Dunn+Jerebko to Philly
Butler to Boston

I'm not sure if Noel, Covington and Bradley are enough for Chicago (probably not) but it seems like something Philly would do. Maybe we could convince Philly to kick in another draft pick for Chicago to bite. I know this is just an inversion of the #3+Bradley for Butler but instead of 3 they get Noel+Covington. At least those are guys we know can play in the NBA a little.
Yeah, probably not.  Is Noel/Covington/Bradley > Lopez/Calderon/J.Grant?  Maybe a little, but Butler is >>> Rose.
Chicago just trained for Robin Lopez. Butler isn't going anywhere.

Ooh, they traded for Robin Lopez? I thought they just took whatever they could get for their damaged goods.
They added a veteran starting center that is under contract until 2019 while moving a redundant piece that didn't fit anymore. I am sure this was just a diversionary move, a prelude to unloading their best player for draft picks and other "future considerations".

No, I think that's an ill-fated attempt to "please" Jimmy Butler. There's no chance that'll work.
This is irrelevant. They are not trading you Jimmy Butler right now.

Ok, that we can agree on. By that I mean it's possible you're right.

The way you phrased it sounded like "Yeah, Jimmy, we know you wanted a pony for christmas, but look, we got you Robin Lopez socks".
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Well I think Teague is a better player than Noel, yet Atlanta only got #12 as he only has one year left on his contract. Why would the Celtics want to give up #3??

That makes way more sense to me.  I don't see how Noel is possibly worth 3.  So limited on offense.  Hasn't shown much potential to get better.

If Philly wants that No. 3 so bad, they better pony up. Noel, Covington, and the No. 24 sounds good.

Yeah, I'm not saying that Butler should be ecstatic that Chicago replaced Rose and Gasol with Calderon and Lopez (I think Lopez #2 is underappreciated as a player, btw), but it should be rather obvious they're trying to add rather than blow it up.

That's the thing. And to make matters worse, he's becoming a FA just in time for the salary explosion. In other words, a #3, without any additional assets, is a non-starter for what is either a rental or a player that you have to pony up big money to despite his offensive limitations/lack of coordination.

Is Noel/Okafor + Lakers 2017 too out of reach?

Noel + the better of 2017 Lakers #1 or PHI #1 + the worse of 2018 PHI #1 or SAC #1

for #3 and  #51 and  # 58 + 2018 BOS #1 top 10 protected

Then package the 2 future #1's + #16 for Butler.

When people talk about Noel, they seem to talk about his skills and overlook his contract situation.  A trade for Noel is basically a rental (possibly followed by a big raise).

If Danny's trying to build a championship team, the contract is at least as important as the talent.  Even with the cap going up, each dollar we spend leaves less room for the max deals we'll need.

Saric and LA '17 are still bigtime assets.

Id love Noel and either one of them. both? thats a massive stretch

If the deal is a pick for Noel, #16 sounds more reasonable.

You gotta pay to get a second top 3 pick. Noel alone is not worth the 3, he's a 1 year rental and then a huge contract. I'd need a pick and a second young player. I would do just Okafor and Saric for 3, Young and Hunter.
