Anyone else getting tired of people matter-of-factly declaring Bender either a bust or the next big thing this prematurely?  Seems like the majority of people who post about him are on one side of these extremes.

Newsflash: none of us have any idea.  He's an 18 year old with barely any footage on him.

Yeah, I don't get it, either.

Fratello was on NBA TV tonite. Said Bender needs another year in Israel.

...the kid has the highest ceiling and can do it all. Will he need time? Sure.

For a chance at a superstar, I can wait.

Bender will NEVER be a superstar.

At least it's very, very, very, very unlikely.

If he becomes as good as Al Horford then I will consider it a massive over-achievement.
He likely won't become a superstar in the traditional sense because a lot of what stretch bigs do does not show up in the box score.  He will always be used as a secondary ball handler and scorer, his rebounding numbers will be limited because he is always on the perimeter on both ends of the floor, his numbers will fluctuate from night to night and will be viewed as inconsistent etc.  The role of a stretch big is a thankless job in a lot of ways, at the same time it is absolutely vital in today's NBA.

I'd trust Danny if after close up analysis he decided Bender was the guy.  If Danny goes in a different direction, I think he's saying that Bender is more of a risk.   I'll take a "high floor/ high ceiling" guy over a "low floor/ high ceilng" guy most of the time.  If this is how Danny sees Dunn v. Bender, I hope he takes Dunn.  Low risk, high reward is my favored way to do business.

I like Dunn, but with two shoulder surgeries. He's also in the high risk category. You may get one or two good years out of him and then his shoulder problems could reappear. Then, you've lost him for the year or longer.

Thanks for the laugh, he really earned tons of playing time last year.  He was not even a star at Maccabi and you think he will be in the NBA.   Taking him would get Ainge fired though, book it.

I'm a Bender proponent, but at this point I kind of don't want Ainge to pick him so I can read the forums without my head exploding.

This is exactly what the detractors were saying about Porzingis last year...  Bender has quicker feet and is a much better ball handler already.  Through summer league and training camp he will likely be able to help from the jump starting next year in at minimum a Jerebko role.

I can't believe that people would even consider taking Bender with 3rd pick. Everyone knowledgable has stated he isn't as good as first thought and has been compared to Mirotic more then Gasol and if he does develop to a player of note we are talking about 4-5 years until he is good enough to start...you don't take a player like that 3rd, I very rarely talk like this on here but there shouldn't even be a discussion.

If we were the GSW or Cavs and had the third pick mayyyyybeee but not a team in our position.

Not a fan of bender at all.

In the case of him being a legitimately good player which is a big IF, picks 4-8 are all western conference teams anyway. It's not going to punish us much.

Far from being a sure thing.

how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck was chris bosh?

Just LOL at Denver getting him.  If the C's don't take him Phoenix will, or Minnesota or New Orleans.  Bender next to Towns or Davis is near perfect.

I would definitely take Bender #3 if it were me. But then again, Ainge has surely done his research and has more information than any of us do, especially about Bender and his thin statistical slice. If Ainge passes on him, I won't second guess.

Draft for upside and high ceiling. Draft Bender.
