"But given the increase in the NBA salary cap, Howard could command a max contract in excess of $30 million per season."

I don't know, I can't see someone giving a 30 year old Dwight who is clearly declining, a multi-year contract starting at 30 million a year.

Still, the more players that opt out, the better the free agent market will be for us this summer.

Dirk opting out could be for a chance to win another ring, but Dwight's 100% doing it for the $$$$

Think this was more about signing long term.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I don't know. The ESPN article says Houston values his defense, but they don't want to pay 23-30 million/year for a 3rd or 4th option on offense.

If Dwight gets 30 million a year, then trading #3 for Noel would be a steal.

What he meant was Dwight is looking for his last long-term contract as a player since he's 31 and on the decline, and he may not care who gives it to him as long as he gets the largest amount of money/years he can on his next contract.

I'd give him whatever Amir+David Lee was making this year.

Maybe Sully's money too.

Until Noel gets $26 million a year starting next season.

Yeah. $30mil for a guy who can't shoot outside the restricted area but cries about his number of touches? No, thanks.

That makes sense.

A guy who joined the Rockets to learn from Kevin McHale and Hakeem the Dream, and proceeded to fail to develop a single low post move while his athleticism declined.

Wait, haven't you heard? Dwight is a champion too. I'm sure in his mind he already has plenty of rings, why bother with one more?

Could be his last chance for a multiyear contract. Never know what might happen if he opts in.

Also, he's already been miserable playing for D'Antoni. Why suffer through it again?

If I'm Dwight I go back to Orlando and admit I made a mistake and repair your tattered image. Vogel is a great big man coach and a front court of Howard and Gordon would be devastation.
