Other than his Pistons, I truly believe he wants the Celtics to succeed. Pretty cool. Helps when your namesake plays for Boston too haha

I used to hate that smug little SOB with that smartass smile when he played with Mahorn and Laimbeer and well into his broadcasting career.

Then along came our IT, and he's been giving us a lot of love ever since, respect for the former rival organization, etc.

Now, I appreciate him more. Good basketball mind.

(Yah, and a little hypocritical on my part, I know.)

Quite classy for him to say.

HOFer IT has had a nice relationship with Celtics IT for a while now and that is awesome.

HOFer IT has EVERY reason to hate BOS - back in the 80s with "Bird to DJ!!" and even a few years ago when he was NY's coach and the newly formed Big Three of Ray/KG/PP34 laid one of the worst beatings on the Knicks EVER I believe - 102-59.

I remember HOFer IT being quite exasperated in that game and I loved it. Still do to this day - not because of HOFer IT but because it was the KNICKS.

For him to put all that aside in lieu of Celtics IT "AND" speak well of Danny and the organization is HUGE. Again CLASS move by HOFer IT.

I'm surprised "HOF IT" didn't hack it as GM in NY (doubt anyone can there, including Phil).
I've listened to him on NBA network, and he seems very knowledgeable and articulate, as you might expect.

When IT (the HOFer) was a kid growing up in Chicago he was supporting the Celtics because they were the first team consistently playing black players as well as the first team to hire a black coach. I guess he genuinely likes the Celtics despite the fact that he had some tough losses against them in his career.
