Wondering if MIL would consider Monroe and #10 for Amir, Young, Hunter, #16 and #23.

Ok I'd definitely do that. Even though I'm not a huge fan now, that's a great deal
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

Not a big fan of Monroe, a lot would depend on the price.

Swap with Amir?
I mean if they're dumping him for an expiring sure.

But they are shopping him, not trying to salary dump him they will want picks and players in return.

Eh, from what I'm reading it seems they're more just trying to dump him than get much back in value. They pretty much killed his value by demoting him to the bench in combination with their downgraded record last year.

I don't think that's true. Unless I'm missing any other reporting on what they're looking at for him. So far its just "shopping hard".

i am just curious, but what is it about young and hunter that makes you believe milwaukee, or anyone, would want them included prior to saying "yes" to a trade?
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Both are nominally wing shooters, which addresses a team need for MIL, on cost-controlled rookie-scale contracts.

I wanted him before when he left Detroit, but I'm not so sure now. He is truly better than any PF we have now. But we need somewhat of a defensive minded BIG now not another offensive minded BIG. I think I read somewhere that his natural position is PF, which even if we went after Horford, we'd have 2 PFs who don't OR shouldn't be playing C - which is what the C's need.

I was a fan of getting Monroe but given that Detroit got a lot better without him and the Bucks got a lot worse, I'm very leery of the guy now.

Mike

Detroit got better because it made no sense to play two centers at the same time.

Milwaukee got worse because they only had one reliable three point shooter in their original starting lineup.

As usual, people fail to look at context, they only see that a big man doesn't fit what they think should be the prototype for that position.

I didn't watch enough of either the Pistons or Bucks to judge and I suspect you didn't either.  What I do know is that Monroe is 25, has never averaged over 16 points, has averaged double figure rebounds only once, averages about half a block a game (same as Sully) and the team that just signed him to a huge contract appears to very much wants to trade him after only one season.

People get so much trouble when they ignore the obvious in favor of the obscure.

Bradley + Olynyk + #16 for Monroe + #10

That's the sort of deal I'd go for.

Monroe isn't an ideal starting center, but I think he's undervalued at this point and could be a quality piece.  Certainly an upgrade on Sullinger as a rebounder and scorer.

I doubt they'd consider moving Parker.

I think you could argue that the Bucks get the best player in that deal. I don't want to make a lateral move. I'd rather keep our guys.

I agree he's undervalued, and I'm all for getting good value, but I don't want to trade any of our core to get him. Sign and trade for Sully, 16, 23 for Monroe?

Wont pretend to watch much Milwaukee but he has been a bad fit both in Milwaukee and Detroit. I still think hes very talented and can be really important in this league. Problem is that he is hard to fit into a team, and hes not talented enough to build a team around.

Thats the thing with Jahlil. He has the same weaknesses and Monroe is a superior rebounder. Jahlil could well improve defensively, on the boards and with his shot, but even if he doesnt its feasible that he could be dominant enough in the post to build around. Monroe is not.

If they are shopping him and we have cap space and no one bites......  Why not keep Amir to include in another package to match salary.

Lets send #16, #23, and the 2 seconds for him.   Keep our players that know the system.

IT, Turner, Rozier
Bradley, Smart, RJ
Jae, #3 Brown (I hope)
KO, JJ and Mickey
Monroe, and Amir

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Tobias Harris was traded for Ilyasova and Brandon Jennings, I cant imagine Monroe would have even the same value.

That relies on John Hammond being as stupid as Rob Hennigan, and not just any Rob Hennigan, but a Rob Hennigan being pressured by Scott Skiles to make a trade he didn't want to make. Nobody in the entire NBA thinks that Orlando got fair value for Harris, and everyone lauded Van Gundy as basically stealing a productive player with a potentially bright future, so no, I don't think it serves to compare the two players' situations.

Monroe hogs the ball and plays bad defense.  That being said, he's better than our bigs.  I just think that I'd rather have the cap and roster space open for someone who is truly good instead of a stat stuffer like Monroe.  We're not going to win a title with Monroe on our team making $17 million, so why bother?  I'd rather be as good as we are now and keep trying to get someone good in there rather than giving up assets to stay mediocre for the long term.

Both players were in similar situations, though - it's not like Harris or Monroe really cost Orlando or Milwaukee anything except cap space. Orlando made a peculiar trade in not getting any picks back, but it seems like Milwaukee is just looking to move on from a signing that isn't really working out. Look what happened with Detroit and Josh Smith - that is like the worst case scenario at what can happen when you sign a FA. If Detroit had just tried to trade Smith earlier, they wouldn't have been on the hook for his entire contract after cutting him.

Anyway, yes, I like Monroe - don't want to give up anything for him really (couple 2nds, Young, Hunter), but he would be a nice upgrade to Sully.

Also, just an absolute trash article in the OP from Bleacher Report. They took a tweet from a guy who writes sparingly for the AP, and just speculated on it without even verifying it. It was a really terrible piece of internet blogging.
