Of course the 2017 draft is waaaay more talented . . . until next summer when it will be all about the 2018 draft . . .
Ding Ding Ding.
TP
That's not actually how it goes, though.
I dunno. That is, indeed, how it seems to go.
The 2014 draft was supposed to be super strong. But it hasn't yet proven to be all that.
The 2015 draft was supposed to be "weak". Until it wasn't.
Most of the time, these broad statements about how "strong" or "weak" a draft are stupid and useless.
Ultimately, what matters is the particular player(s) you can reach at your pick.
As I noted up above, the 2017 draft and the 2016 draft aren't so much "stronger" or "weaker" relative to each other, they are just "different". This year's draft is positionally much stronger in bigs and 2s. Next year's will be stronger in 3s and 1s.
This year's is also very strong in international players. Maybe some folks are confusing that with saying this year's college class is weak. But analytics suggest that among college classes, this one is actually one of the stronger in recent years.
Maybe next year's class has more 'name' studs at the top. Maybe they won't look so perfect after being over-analyzed for a year. We'll see.
