Let's say we didn't land the 2016 BKN pick (got 2017-2019 instead or something) from the PP-KG deal and BKN was willing to trade the third pick this year for what is essentially a straight up deal (aka some throw away players could be included from their end).

Who would you NOT trade it for?

Smart and IT are the only two guys I would not trade for it.

Crowder. Otherwise, I'd say that IT and Smart are slightly less valuable than #3 mostly because they are only under contract for two more years. The fact that Smart is restricted adds a bit of value, but he probably won't be getting a max offer sheet anyway.

If some other team had the third pick, I think it's highly unlikely the Celts could trade any one of the players currently on the roster to get the pick.

So I'm going to say no.  Nobody on the Celts has trade value equal to or greater than the third pick.

With that said, at the very least I would say that Thomas and Crowder are likely to provide greater value than anybody available at 3 in this draft in terms of on court production for the next few years.  Perhaps Bradley as well.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

The short answer is No.

However, there are certain core players that the C's would be well advised to keep and build a championship roster around when the time comes.  Players like Smart and  Bradley who are tough, no nonsense defensive players who also display the ability to come through in clutch situations because they possess a trait which I refer to as the "will to win".  Rozier is also a player who, when he "comes into his own" which is mainly a function of maturation and playing time, could also be included in that group in time.

Crowder also fits the criteria above but I feel that he has peaked and now would be the best time to get the most value out of him based on his performance on the court as well as the value of his contract.  If including him in a trade yields another important piece (whether Butler, Boogie, Love, etc.), Danny will move him without hesitation.

Retaining the players mentioned is also important IMO if the C's really do make a run at someone like Durant.  Durant needs guys around him like that rather than the Westbrooks (or IT's) of the world to to do the dirty work.  He and another major piece acquired can provide the scoring that the C's badly need while the "core guys" do what is needed to get back into the NBA Finals.

It's an interesting question.  I've got to think Brookyln would trade IT for #3.  An all-star at their position of biggest need on a cheap deal for two more years?  That's a move that would turn them around faster than picking even Dunn at #3.  From the Celtics sense, I wouldn't give up IT.  So I'll put him down.

I love Smart.  He's my favorite player.  But I'd trade him for #3.  Same with Crowder, I think, although his contract is so good, and will probably be a better bargain than whomever is picked at #3 for every year of it.  Still, theoretically #3 could become a better player than Jae in time for his second deal, and with restricted free agency he'd remain a Celtic. So I guess #3, but it's easily a trade that could leave me kicking myself for a few years.

I'm so glad AB has rediscovered the defense he lot for a couple of seasons, all while becoming a more valuable offensive player, but I'd trade him for #3.

I think we could get #6 for Crowder...or atleast 2 weeks ago when we talked about it.

2 teams: MIN and PHO have old vets, that don't really play, on long contracts around 13m a year. We could always take on those contracts or use JJ and Amir's terms in their contract

Realistically, IT is worth 4...smart is worth 7... The value of players goes up when you make it deep in the playoffs. Heild or murray or whoever is more valuable than crowder, avery, smart. The unknown is valuable.

I'd say IT, Smart, maybe KO, Bradley and Crowder are better than any player we can get at 3 this year. Brown, Hield, BEnder, Chriss, Murray are potentially better players than KO, Crowder and Bradley. It's closer than some people may think though.  I'd say KO, Crowder and Bradley's value are not much less if any. They are better players now and have upside themselves.  Ultimately upside wise it's also not a huge gap if any and can go either way in some cases.

the 3rd pick this year is probably worth KO, Crowder or Bradley honestly. Don't tell anyone that though.

It's actually comparable to Marcus Smart in value although I'd take Smart and IT over any player at 3 this year.

The value of the pick is probably somewhere between Smart, IT and KO, Bradley, Crowder.

Kris Dunn is really the kicker if we trade it.  The Bulls may really like him and see a star there.  I'd prefer Marcus Smart over him.

The nets were also stupid to trade us that pick. They could really use Dunn.  It's really the nets pick but we have it.  In that regard the pick has value.

Wow.  Why even bother making the pick, then?  Geesh.

Interesting answers so far. The general vibe I'm getting is that the guy we pick at #3 this year is expected to be the best player on this team in a few years. I mean, otherwise, a guy like IT4 (currently an all star) should hold more value, no?

Lol. I love Marcus but there's no way we get 7 for him. His flaws have been exposed BIG TIME.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about
