Next years draft being loaded with talent how p---ed off would everybody be if we traded 16-23 for 2 first rounders next year? Let's just say Knicks and some othe team. I would be all about just re trading those picks.

I'm def interested in having 2 rookies per year for the next 4 years. More than that doesn't seem necessary with the amount of decent role players that we have.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

I'd like to keep one of them for stashing a guy like Zizic, Zubac, Luwawu, etc. Guys who likely won't be there with our second round picks.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I would prefer using 1 of the 2 in combination with 2nd rounders or players or both to move up into the top 12 to land Deyonta Davis.  I don't think he will last to pick #16.

This year's draft is deep. There will be good prospects available at 16+23. I think we should make the picks, or use 2nd rounders to trade up a few spots. With the second rounders, trade for future picks or rotation players.

I agree with this wholeheartedly... I think Davis has an extremely high ceiling and is already a plug and play, mobile rim protector. We need to ensure we get this kid... even if we have to package the remaining picks to move up... he'll be a beast

I agree with loco on this one -- it sounds to me that this year's draft is actually uncommonly strong in the 16-40 range.  The Celts should make the most of their picks in that range.

Glad to see I'm not the only one salivating at the prospects of us getting a chance at Davis.

I also don't think there's any chance he makes it to pick 16, we should move up if we have to.

Draft him and sign a big like Noah for him to learn from.

I'd much prefer to trade #31 and #35 combined for a lottery protected first next year.

I agree it would be good to space things out.  However, I think there are some CBA reasons to keep #16 and #23.

Firstly, it wouldn't surprise me to see #31 get more money than #23.  2nd rounders have no slotted contracts, unlike first rounders who are slotted.  In some years, this has benefitted teams, who've handed out contracts at or just above the minimum.  Last year, however, Jordan Mickey got more at pick #33 in years 1-3 than RJ did at #28.  With the cap increasing by such a huge amount, I expect that trend to continue, and our pick at #31 could easily demand, and receive, the money given to picks in the early 20s.

Secondly, the CBA will likely be renegotiated this winter.  The cap will have doubled since the CBA was signed.  However, rookie slot deals will have increased only 19% during the same period.  While I don't expect slot deals to double, I do expect that they will increase pretty substantially, so pick #23 next year could take up a good deal more salary space than this year, and probably take up as much, or more, than pick #16 this year.

We have too many picks, I agree.  But I think 16 and 23 are really good picks, and I'd rather not play kick the can with them.

If Danny makes a trade for a top tier player, there is a good possibility we won't have those picks come draft night.

My feeling Danny might be trying too hard to emulate his 2007 trade performance. There should be some good talent out there at 16+23. I prefer we don't trade these players for future picks or for a veteran player.

I'm pretty much agreed with most posters that we should keep them. Either consolidate and move up from 16 for a guy like Davis or make the picks and draft and stash a little.

Question, if we draft and stash and rookie contracts go up then is that guy locked into the 2016 rookie scale contract or is it put in line with the draft year he comes in with?

It would be next year's rookie scale.

TP thanks. So a draft and stash could end up taking a higher proportion of our cap if we wait a few years. Hardly significant though. I still fully expect us to only use 4 picks max this draft, with 2 coming straight into the league

Well, then, we'll have to start unloading veterans for this all-rookie expansion team we are building. Be interesting to see what IT, Smart and Crowder bring. In terms of picks, of course.

Just for info on 17 draft-

Sam Vecine said that the #10 pick in the NBA draft probably has the same value as the #3 pick in this year's draft.

Chad Ford recently said that the 17 draft is absolutely loaded. In fact, he continued by saying it's one of the best drafts he's seen.
