If we do end up with Butler, it is going to cost considerably more than that package. That about half the people voted they wouldn't do the deal makes me think that people aren't going to be happy if we get Butler since it will cost more than that.

I don't think it will. There's been talk about it being more, but we all know what the price was at the deadline - Crowder and the Brooklyn pick. It hasn't raised since then, especially since Butler's stock could've only went down since then with the injury and the reports of his locker room issues with Noah and Rose.

Other than offering Wiggins or Towns and #5, I don't think they'll deal with Thibs, because 1) they don't like each other and 2) our pick is much better. 3 is much better than 5 due to having the choice of who they want in the second tier (almost unanimously Dunn) and the possibility that Ingram slips (still possible).

I honestly see about a 95% chance of a trade with that number 3 pick, and if we do use the pick, I'm guessing it will be on Dunn due to him probably having the most trade value. Thus, there's no way their guy is getting to number 5 for Minny to trade with Chicago.

I think of course you do that, especially if it's for Bradley instead of Crowder, though I'd end up doing Crowder, too. Bradley, JJ, Young, 3, and 16 for Butler. Even by just adding Horford this summer, you'd easily have an ECF team on hand:

PG: IT, Rozier
SG: Butler, Smart
SF: Crowder, (probably able to resign Turner, too)
PF: Amir, Mickey
C: Horford, KO

The draft is now one week away.
We've seen the prospects now and got a chance to get a good look at their workouts (well...other than Bender).
The rumors are flying around again that the Celtics and Wolves are interested in Butler.
I don't want to give up Crowder or IT, or any future Brooklyn picks, but if the Bulls ask for AB+16+the 3rd pick, I am completely down to make the trade.

What are people's thoughts on this now that the draft is a week away?
What if they ask for Smart instead of AB? That's where it gets hard for me. Not sure I do it if Smart is involved.
Thoughts?

You gotta be ok with that trade. Heckuva move.

Looks like the once garbage player Avery Bradley is highly valued by some on here now. Would Ainge be ok with moving Bradley ? Loves that guy.

Since Rozier was drafted, I often heard how he was on Chicago's radar from the get go. I'd have to think he's in the package. Their scouts loved him.

Anybody who wouldn't do the deal, what about #3 + Bradley for #14+ Butler?
Celtics fan for life.

The only way it's worth giving up #3 is if Bradley, IT, Crowder, and Smart are not involved.

I would do Amir, Jerebko, 3, 23, and Rozier for Butler and 14.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I read it as doing the deal now, a week before the draft. Maybe that was a misinterpretation? I wouldn't make any deal until I know Simmons and Ingram are off the board

I didn't mention this but I think this is the reason the trade won't get made until draft night.
Danny will probably do all he can to get Simmons if somehow the 76ers pick Ingram or Bender first (about a 5% chance of that happening but who knows).
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I would probably do it but you need to add an outside shooter at the 2 to replace AB.  This team played poorly every time he was out last season.  Recordwise it would be a sideways move until you do that.

The difference between AB and Butler is huge.

Butler and Crowder would be a killer wing combo.

People really underselling Bradley here. The guys is a 1st Team All-Defense averaging 15PPG. I wouldn't trade both of him and #3 for a marginal upgrade.

Marginal upgrade? 21/5/5 vs 15/3/2

There is a large difference there.

Are you only looking at the one side of the ball? Check the usg%. Butler's defensive numbers have went down too. Butler maybe a good defender, but he is not transcendent on that side that  Bradley is. If you told me I would trade Bradley for Butler a year ago, I would have taken that. But Bradley's value is high right now. You don't trade both #3 and Bradley for a player who is not that much of an upgrade on the offensive end. It's either Bradley, #3 or just leave.

I don't. Unless you include McDermott, Mirotic and their own pick.

Of course you do it.  Not only is Butler significantly better than Bradley, Smart can give you about 70% of what Bradley gives you anyway.

Please, explain how butler is *significantly* better than Bradley. I'd love to hear it. Because, although he is better, significant is not the correct term. He is not a better shooter or defender or, as it seems, teammate. Also, his contract is *significantly* larger.

This is the most likely scenario -- if there was any truth to the trade deadline rumors, we are going to flip Dunn for Okafor.
