If we go Chriss at 3 and Malachi at 16 I might put a piece of furniture through my tv.

Also, I see Valentine going in the 20's in mocks but I don't understand it at all. He's a great shooter at a time when shooting is at a premium. I don't think he's much worse than Buddy.

Chriss and malachi could turn into really valuable players, or be a couple of James Young type busts. Two guys that wow with the eye test but look horrible by the numbers.

I suppose I'm in favor of swinging for the fences, but yeah, that'd set my teeth on edge.

What exactly wowed you about James Young when we drafted him? He had no handles, not really athletic. All we were expecting was him to be able to shoot when we drafted him. So I really don't get the wow comparison since Young wasn't much to look at visually. Also, he was pretty slow in college. Most raw player we have drafted with the exception of Fab Melo.

Raw physical tools.

Go look up the clip of him dunking in the tourney that year.

Or roll the clip of Simmons fist pumping after Young was selected.

Yeah I saw that clip, he doesn't have much air to be honest. His vertical is 35.5 while Jamal Murray's is 39.5. He had a nice wingspan, that's about it.

A 35.5 inch vertical is a bit more impressive on a 6' 7" guy with a 7' wingspan, than it would be on a 6' 4" guy with a 6' 6.5" wingspan.

Young's max vertical reach at the combine was 11' 7.5", just behind Zach Lavine's 11' 9.5" among shooting guards drafted that year.

Hindsight sees that Young hasn't done much so far in his NBA career to validate his pick, but at the time of the pick, the vast majority of folks had no reason to think it wasn't a good pick based on his physical potential.  His physical attributes are not that different from Wiggins.  And it was only a #17 pick.

If the comparison point is Chriss, there is obviously a bit more risk involved with using the #3 pick.   I personally would love to take a chance on Chriss, but based on what I perceive (I've seen a LOT of Chriss' games) preferably not with that high of a pick.  Super high ceiling.  Scary looking floor.  I'll trust Danny and his staff will have done their due diligence though.

Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. I couldn't see the hype visually, but the measurables don't lie. I guess you can compare Young to Chriss and Brown.
