The Lakers-Celtics swap

Lakers send: D'Angelo Russell and Julius Randle to Boston
Celtics send: Picks Nos. 3 and 16 along with Jonas Jerebko, R.J. Hunter and Jordan Mickey to Los Angeles

Why the Lakers do it: The Lakers have hoped Russell would be the face of the franchise, post-Kobe Bryant, after drafting him with the No. 2 pick a year ago. It might still work out. But so far, it hasn't gone as hoped.

Russell struggled early in the year and turned the locker room against him after the Nick Young incident. Given Russell's high draft value, there is reason to believe the Lakers might be better off moving him and giving him a fresh start while finding comparable young players.

The Lakers hold the No. 2 pick in the draft, likely to be Brandon Ingram, and are enamored with two other prospects: Dunn and Chriss.

Adding either player -- along with another mid-first-round pick, plus other young prospects like Hunter and Mickey -- would give them a stronger base to build upon.

Why the Celtics do it: The Celtics would essentially get two picks for the price of one. Russell can do many of the things Evan Turner did for Boston last year, but for less money with far more upside. Randle is an athletic, versatile 4 -- another need on Boston's list.

It's clear the Celtics would prefer to package these picks along with other players on their roster for a veteran superstar. But that trade might not be available

This would give the Celtics two players who are a little more ready to come in and contribute right now and grow with a team full of young veterans.

They like Dunn (CBlog doesn't for some reason) and want to rid themselves of Russell for good reason after his issues in the locker room. Randle's no superstar either.

The more I think about it, the less I like it.  That probably means it is a bad idea.  Just from the play standpoint, I was iffy, throw in the immaturity issues and general dislike other players are going to have in wanting to be around Russell and no... just no.

Plus there has to be something better we could do with pick 3 than get two also rans.  Neither guy looks to be a difference maker.  Better to stay the course and develop players than pick up someone else's trash.

Based on those deals, we could also pretty easily land either Okafor and I think we could put a decent offer for Butler.

Is AB 3 Amir and 16 better than 5, Levine, and Dieng and pekovic.

TP. It seems like they're already ready to deal Russell.

Dunn's name is popping up so much with people coveting him that I have a feeling that he might be the "Russell" of this draft.

Actually, if they would take Dunn instead of Ingram at #2, a Rusell for Noel swap would make a ton of sense for both sides, though that would more than likely screw us with a Butler or Okafor trade while simultaneously helping us for teams that covet Ingram.

I mean, I think he is, but I'm also not high on Dunn like many are here and around the league. I also think he's a more surefire prospect than others like Bender, Chriss, or Murray, especially because he's shown that he at least belongs in the league in his rookie year. If he was paired with a good complement in the backcourt (like Smart), then he could really thrive I think.

I hate this deal. Laker bums for our most valuable asset? I think not. Tell them to pound sand unless we're somehow getting Ingram. Plus this draft class is so much better than Russell or Randle's draft class, and were giving up multiple picks that could turn into actual all stars for okay players?

This is basically the Lakers trying to sell their mistakes to someone else. Kind of like when you buy a boat. 

This is easily the worst idea I've seen yet considering the Brooklyn. Pick

This is one of those trades that neither team would do - and for very legitimate reasons.

In looking at most of these trades, they really make little sense. The CLE/NYK/PHO trade is bizarre

I'm not sure I'd do #3 for Russell right now. I agree the locker room stuff is a big deal and I think Kris Dunn has more two-way ability that Russell has scoring talent. I would consider #3 and #16 for Russell And Randle and I don't think it's that lopsided. Randle is not a huge upside guy. He's 6'9" and has short arms. He put up Sully's numbers with virtually identical usage rates. While I agree he has more room to grow than Sullinger, I'm not sure how high his ceiling is (Millsap?).

I'd probably rather have Dunn and Bryce Johnson than Russell and Randle right now, but it's close.

If you look at the defensive win shares last year Russell and Randle were abysmal. If Kevin Love is a turnstile, Randle is a red carpet. And think what you will of Byron Scott as a coach but he loathed putting up with Russell's crap all season. I don't want that in our locker room. I really like our locker room.

So yeah, I guess I have green colored glasses

As far as talent goes this would be win for us but I'm not sure I would do it. Rather trade them all that for #2.

This is a really confusing trade idea for both sides. I could see this working if we brought in Philly as a third team.

Trouble with that Lakers deal is I'm not sure what the Celtics get back is going to help them that much. Russell and Randle don't make enough of a difference.

I prefer a deal for Noel or Okafor. Okafor preferred, because they need offense and at least he can shoot a little and has upside. And is cheap. That counts for GMs and owners.

Or throw the dice for a Bender or Chriss or Murray. And then go for the FAs and maybe trades.

I wonder if they could coax Dieng out of the Wolves for a switch of picks 3 for 5? Seems like he's expendable. Then they could draft a shooting guard at the 5.
