It's easy for us to sit here and say Brooklyn will undoubtedly be a lottery team again the next two seasons, but you can't do say that for certain, things change.

What happens if the 2017 & 2018 picks we send out turn out to be either late-lottery, or non-lottery picks? Also consider whoever Sacto drafts with the #3 this year has very little chance of ever being as good as Cousins.

I don't think those picks alone would be enough for Sacramento, to be honest. It might be, but it would be a very risky move on their part.

That's like saying that if you had the 76ers picks in 2014 you'd be betting they wouldn't be lottery picks. While there's a chance that somehow NJ drastically improves this offseason (that's why they play the games), there's a far better chance that they won't. Vegas has them at 500-1, which is four times as bad as every other team not named the Suns. Sacramento would simply be playing the odds they'd end up with 2 top-5 picks in a supposedly very loaded 2017 draft. That's a massive opportunity for any team for an instant rebuild.

Most GMs aren't stupid. They're going to assume that a Nets 2017 pick has a very, very good chance of being top 5 and that the chance it falls out of the lottery is slim to none. Which is why I'm sure Danny doesn't want to part with it under any circumstances.

I am being realistic. You cannot predict with certainty where those picks will fall. Odds are they do end up as lottery picks. But they may not, and even if they do, there isn't enough of a guarantee either of those picks end up as a top 3 pick. The draft lottery has a way of screwing up best laid plans. If Sacramento ends up without a single #1 or #2 pick from the deal, they lose (unless a superstar develops from a later pick - always a crap shoot).

Banking on a team being bad is risky business, despite however likely it might seem.

By the way, you might want to get off your flying elephant to take a moment and realize the Nets haven't played in NJ for a few years now.
