Interesting note from Chad Ford via Twitter --

Kris Dunn hasn't done a team workout with a little more than a week to go before the draft. He's refusing to do 1-on-none workouts with teams. Will only workout for teams if it's against Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram or Jamal Murray source says.  Dunn is currently projected in the 3 to 8 range. Sixers, Lakers, Celtics, Wolves, Pelicans and Kings have all shown interest in Dunn.

Very interesting to not even workout for teams. I mean, even Yi posted up a folding chair. Think this strategy will hurt him at draft time?

Agents and their strategies are weird.  In a way it makes sense, however.  Shooting open jumpers isn't his game, but being fierce on defense and driving to the hoop is.  I'd love to see a 1-on-1 between him and Simmons.  Could he really guard a 6-10 guy with great handles?

I also think Jaylen Brown is intentionally left off that list, however, because my gut says Jaylen would accept the challenge.

Well, I can understand it. Two of the other guys he's competing with hit 79 and 85 out of 100 threes, so what can Dunn do to help himself in these workouts?

over on SoSH they mentioned how charlotte gave dunn a promise if he shut down all his workouts.

i dont know if that is true, but it would explain his actions.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

His agent knows it would look bad to see Dunn miss shots against the folding chair.  That's how bad his offense is.  LOL.  And BTW he's 22, he's not the youngest prospect in the draft, and I don't see him as a 'can't miss' more ready to contribute guy.  He may be a very good defender for a guard, but  I don't see him having Smart level defense with the offense a work in progress.

And if he's not even competing vs other players in workouts, I find that a big red flag.  OR a big possibility is that Dunn has a promise with a certain team in the top 10 already and just wants to make sure he goes to that team.

Does Charlotte even have a pick? I thought they traded theirs to Portland for Batum.  Even if they did it would be in the 20s, so no way is he shutting down for that promise.

Maybe they meant New Orleans, and got Hornets and Pelicans confused, or something?  Also can't see Dunn being unwilling to play in Boston but being cool playing behind Kemba Walker.

Dunn is a clown and the anti Marcus Smart (worked out twice for the Celts)

Dunn and his genius agent knows none of those guys listed will do 1 on 1s . Basically telling the world , I don't need to workout for anybody.

He thinks he is better than the nba already

I hope he drops likes a rock

In hearing his interviews, it's hard to disagree with this sentiment.

But there is something very intriguing about Dunn, too. He is still solidly my guy at #3 - his in game speed, energy, and explosiveness (not just measurables at the combine) are off the charts compared to his peers. His shooting is good, not great, but his defense is fantastic and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go all Dwyane Wade on the league.

He may be a bit of a jerk, but that doesn't make him a bad player. Only willing to work out against the other top players can also be seen as a positive.

To what interviews are you referring?  I've seen a few and he doesn't speak or come off that way at all.  He's a great guy.

Says who?  He's a very talented player on both ends.  Are you talking about another Kris Dunn, perhaps, lol?

Okay, 'jerk' is a bit of a stretch, but he seems pretty confident and isn't particularly smiley. I realize these are not pre-requisites to being a great NBA player, but after watching a number of draft express pre-draft interviews, his stuck out as more intense than others.

He may very well be a great guy, maybe over-confidence (in general) just rubs me the wrong way, but I need to emphasize that I think he could very well be the best player in this draft class. I am sure I would love him if he were on the Cs.

I didn't pick up even the slightest hint of him being over confident, but I do like that he comes off as more intense than his peers, and don't worry about the smiling - he's had a rough road, to say the least.

Dunn's already has worked out against other prospects and NBA players:

Quote
Kris Dunn, PG, Jr., Providence

Dunn went counter to conventional wisdom last year and decided to return to Providence, despite the fact that most teams had projected him as a late lottery pick.

Dunn said his motivation was primarily academic. He wanted to leave Providence with a college degree. Not only did he graduate last week, fulfilling a lifelong dream, his draft stock improved as well.

Dunn's elite size, quickness and power for a point guard are his primary draws. So is a fierce competitiveness, especially on the defensive end, that should make NBA head coaches drool. Few prospects compete as aggressively as Dunn does.

In one-on-one and two-on-two drills I saw on Monday and Wednesday, Dunn lived and died by every possession. He appeared incredulous every time he missed a shot or his team lost. And when his team won or even when he'd just win an individual match-up? The swagger showed.

And Dunn had plenty of opportunities to compete. I saw him go up against two NBA players, Elfrid Payton and Nick Johnson, and two other draft prospects, Tyler Ulis and Ron Baker, in multiple one-on-one, two-on-two and three-on-three sessions.

To appreciate a guard like Dunn, you really need to see him in live action. He does well enough in the drills (and on Wednesday he was knocking a high percentage in shooting drills), but when the lights come on, he's a more focused and aggressive player.

Right now his defense is ahead of his offense. No one in the gym could score on him with any regularity. Blessed with size, strength, length, speed and aggressiveness, he has the potential to be an All-Defensive team member in the NBA someday. If he can avoid foul trouble, someday might not be that far away.

One of my favorite moments of the past few weeks came when Dunn got caught on a switch against Guerschon Yabusele, a 6-foot-8, 270 pound power forward. As Yabusele banged away at Dunn, Dunn banged right back, refusing to cede an inch.

Offensively, his speed, court vision and strength allow him to get to wherever he wants on the floor. While at times I felt like he could be even more aggressive hunting for his own shot at both Providence and in the live scrimmages I saw, the fact that he's a "pure" point guard who plays unselfishly is a big part of his appeal to teams.

"I love to compete every day," Dunn said. "It's good to have those NBA players come in and test our capabilities against those type of guys and see if, you know, we can play at a high level like those guys. It's good for us. I was taught to not back down from nobody. That's the type of player I am."

I'd love to see Dunn straight up against the rest of the top ten myself and think he'd smoke quite a few of them. Dunn's also been the best player in the Big East for the last two years. I suspect he'd be no surprise to any team at this point.
