I'm not sure we have the roster space for him.  Especially if you figure we add at least two players in the draft plus other free agents we could use more than him.  I just don't see where he warrants a spot.

Maybe behind Crowder at the 3?

There is no one in the draft I believe who is better than Dudley behind Crowder at the 3.

Sure, maybe in 2 years they are better but if we are to win some more games and appeal to free agents then adding Dudley as a versatile SF, SG, PF and three point sharpshooter off the bench is the way to go.

Small acquisition but on a 2-3 year deal fills a need short term until the young players or stars take over. Also Dudley's veteran presence would be valuable for all the young players the Celtics have (he even mentioned his influence in the interview he had).

When you have bench players at his level wanting to come to the Celtics one could only think that's a good thing. Players attract players and Dudley knows a lot of top players in the league. I like the idea if he's offered a bench position.

I think Dudley fills a need at SF, where we are really thin behind Crowder. If we can get him for MLE I am all on board.

That's a good point but consider that ET  and Sully might leave the team. Maybe Zeller and Amir too depending on what happens the next few months. And I would not see  James Young as a lock either, esp. if we sign a big in the FA. Add to this that we already have an empty roster post and this adds up to 6 potentially free roster posts.

Of the people drafted I expect that only 3-4 or four will sign to play with the team this year. We will either trade several picks for another team's one pick or stash the second rounders abroad.

So, if necessary we can add Dudley, add 3 rookies, and still have two spots available for FAs. This scenario is obviously a stretch, but if we see it as a improving our position we might as well do something similar.

If we let Amir, Sully, and Zeller go, we aren't replacing them with Dudley.  That is three bigs for a smallish 4/3.  That isn't going to work.  We will have to replace at least two of those with size.

I should add, we will bring back Amir if he isn't traded for another player.

I'm not saying it isn't possible we make 10 moves and all of a sudden there is a need for Dudley.  I am saying without major moves he doesn't fit.

it's a good sign that veteran-type guys are talking about Boston in this light.  and good hearing it from one of KD's peers in the workplace.

ofc not. That's why I said we still have two spots to sign FAs.

If we cannot get good bigs through the FA we just keep Amir and Zeller.

The point is there are ways to fix the roster spots problem.
