He's a veteran shooter and defender who has been appreciated for his contributions off the court at every stop of his career.

I'd be happy to see him join the Celts, though not for too much money.

He's pretty good shooting 3's when he is alone but he cannot create his own shot like Turner can so let's not think he can replace turner. He's a spot up 3pt shooter.

I'd honestly rather have someone like that than Turner. I'd like to see more playmaking opportunities be given to Marcus Smart this year, and if there's one thing we need it's someone who can hit an open 3.

It's not necessarily an either / or, plus the team would probably be better off with a spot up shooter out there and giving the ball to Marcus more often.

No, but it has nothing to do with his play.  He's a decent player and all, but I'd be worried about what kind of impact he'd have in the locker room.  Dudley has aired quite a number of ex-teammate stories to the media over the last few years, iirc, and idk about you guys, but I wouldn't trust a guy like that to keep things that should stay private in house, so absolutely not.  He'd be great on tmz, though ;D

I like Dudley and wouldn't be bummed at all if the Celtics got him, but I wouldn't sign him I was running the team and here's why:

The Celtics have like 30 draft picks (approximate) in the next three years.  The strength of this team right now from a building perspective is that it can load spots 6-15 on the roster with low cost above average players who are on rookie contracts and are in their first three years.

I'm totally for trading for legitimate starters, but I would stop trying to acquire guys who are borderline bench/role players just because we're going to be able to fill those spots on the cheap with draft picks.  We can save the cap space a guy like Dudley would take up for legit starters that we acquire, and get similar production from guys that actually have a future on the team and have potential to improve.

If we trade some players/picks and/or don't resign some guys and he doesn't want a lot of money then he would definitely be a good fit.

What do you guys think of Dudley? Yay or Nay?

Yay!

If he comes at the price you suggest (4yrs/26mil) replacing ET with Dudley will be the definition of an Aingian move: a quiet improvement that achieves several things at one stroke (adds veteran experience, improves 3%, saves money on salaries).

As other ppl have suggested  though, it does not move the needle much. If we are ever going to be build a contender we will get to get lucky at the draft, FA or a trade at some point. But since there is no way to force things, I'll be happy with minor improvements while waiting.

Meh = he is a fine bench player but nothing to get excited about.
this.

not much to get excited about

Of course this isn't an "excitement" move like Durant would be...

But as teams like Golden State, San Antonio have shown us, a strong bench full of depth to go alongside the star(s) goes a long way in sustaining consistency and building a dynasty.

Obviously if we do end up getting two max contracts this offseason then don't sign Dudley and go over the cap, but assuming we don't do much, you have to consider Dudley to fill a small need and push this team further (maybe even to 50+ wins next season).

If anything, Dudley could also be a cheap, and thus very valuable trade chip in the future if we choose to package picks, and a few players to nab a star or just a better player in general.

You're right. Lets just get rid of all our bench players.

Clearly they aren't stars and thus aren't pushing us towards contention.

People complained about our lack of shooting outside IT, and that's true. Dudley can shoot effectively and can be a sharpshooter and an above-average wing player (could be an underrated signing). Also if, god forbid, Crowder gets injured its not like we have much depth at 3 behind him to compensate.

Also look at us last season, a big reason we weren't able to hold on to the 3 seed was because Crowder was injured for some time and then we started to lose games.

Although I said I would consider a deal for 6-7M/Year for Dudley, lots of experts and writers out there think Dudley will sign for an MLE with a team, which doesn't cause a cap hit this season at least.

I say Yay.

I don't know how many people actually listened to the cast, but guy has a level head and has already been spreading the news on Stevens and how good he is. Told Kidd to start Giannis, and thinks he's better coming off the bench and teaching the kids how to play.

That being said, maybe a 2 year second team option. Lands Durant this year, he helps back up duty with Crowder, or if Durant stays one more year, he's locked in for next just in case. That best case.

Worst case, draft a kid, and he takes the newbies under his wing and shows them how to play. As long that it doesn't break the bank, from what it sounds like it shouldn't, it would be a good move. Does it move the needle in wins and loses? Not really, but long term with the kids it might be a big move.

I'd say it's the exact opposite. By all accounts he's been regarded as a very positive locker room presence at every stop in his career.

I'm not sure we have the roster space for him.  Especially if you figure we add at least two players in the draft plus other free agents we could use more than him.  I just don't see where he warrants a spot.
