Jaylen Brown reminds me of Tyreke Evans.

Minus the PG skills but similar build and athleticism. Scorers mindset. Ball-handling. Questionable jump-shot and shot-selection. Defensive talent. Quality rebounder. Capable passer.
Evans is known for his defense? Did not know that until now.

Tyreke is capable of playing defense. The ability is there. He is just not as consistent in his effort in his effort as he should be.

Similar to Jaylen Brown. Has talent defensively. Capable of being a plus defender. But is inconsistent in his effort and underachieves defensively.

Based on college play he is nowhere near as solid as Winslow.  I would be fine with him at 16, but not 3.  He looked absolutely awful the games I saw at Cal.

Let me preface with I think Ainge may take Brown at three. I wouldn't be happy, but I could see it.

However, you're confusing being able to dunk with power as being able to finish at the rim. Jaylen Brown is a subpar, or at least was a subpar finisher for Cal. He shot 45% at the rim because he's a bit wreckless and will throw up wild shots in traffic.

I also don't view him as a plus defender at this point. He may be able to hold his own, but this guy is clearly living on a reputation vs. anything quantifiable he did up until this point. Absolutely he does have the tools to be great defender but he's getting overrated right now. He doesn't have the defensive intangibles like a Justise Winslow or a Marcus Smart.

I don't hate Brown if we were at 8-12 but I wouldn't take him at 3. He's got good but not freakish size/length, is erratic and has wobbly mechanics on his shot with no in between game. Overrated feel for the game presently, as well. Solid prospect but not someone 'I'd risk our pick on.

This kid can play. We need players.

Games come with context...so I believe there were circumstances.

  • Celtic's only raise championship Banners
I"d be much happier trading the pick for Okafor. Which I hope we do bc he can still get better even though many believe he will be the same player forveer

Does that even mean anything?

Can't shoot.  Look at Brown's profile 2p% 43.1; 3p% 29.4; ft% 65.4

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Jaylen-Brown-72912/

Those are the top 3 indicators of shooting ability, and he doesn't have it.

People bash Marcus Smart for not being a good shooter, how badly would they be bashing on Brown?

People bashed Jeff Green, who was extremely athletic for having no heart, and being inconsistent offensively and defensively.  But at least Jeff Green could shoot.

At the college level Green was already shooting 52.8 2p%; 40% 3pt; 69.9% FT his freshman year.

Jaylen Brown to my eye looks like possibly another Jeff Green athletically but a much worse shooter.  Is that really worth the #3 overall pick in the draft?

He can play? Based on what?

He is a terrible fit. We need shooters and he might be the worst one in the draft.

He's a terrible basketball player with lockdown ability on defense. Looks like a Ainge pick, for sure.

Dunn as well, though he may be too skilled for his position. Injury risk may be real, too.

I hope we go Murray, but seems doubtful -- he's too talented. That, or swing for the fences on Bender -- if he's a complete bust, at least we can laugh about it afterward. Better than getting our hopes up for a 32 year old Buddy.
