We are always taking about taking the Bpa when drafting that high. And the Celtics team needs can be summarized in one word. Offensive.

Smart, Bradley, Crowder, Rozier yes we could use another big man defender, but we have many of the best options in the league for perimeter defense.

So should we take the most talented offensive player on the board even if defense is not his strong suite.

No. You cant have too good of a defense. You take BOPA: Best overall player available.

The team needs two-way players.

Best two-way prospect available.

Unless you're drafting a player that you can build around, you draft the best player for the system you run.

Right now it's looking like Brown,Dunn or Heild. With Heild and Dunn, you might have to move some one, but both bring something to the guard table. Brown, if he can get a decent out side shot would be what you want for a SF. If Durant is off the table, he can mentor under Crowder this year, and maybe he shoots past him by next season.

not sure this is the correct one of the 3,209 threads on the draft, but i saw the following tweets on SoSH:

Scott Souza @Scott_Souza
Austin Ainge said #Celtics know Providence's Kris Dunn well enough to evaluate him without benefit of workout or medical records.

To answer your question, yes, always take BPA.  Always.  And let me explain, by best player I mean best talent.

One can always reshuffle the deck afterwards but you can't undo the bad the decision of taking an inferior player.

Here the point, If Murray is Harden light with slightly better defense we should take him. That's this teams biggest need. A stud scorer.

That only applies when you already have the player you want to build around (although even then it isn't the best choice)

Drafting players just because they fit into a system or fill a need makes no sense when your system could change at any time if you bring in a player you can build a system around.  We need to add talent, if we need someone to fill a role we can find someone in free agency
I'm bitter.

I'm kinda thinking this will be the 2016-17 Celtics starting 5

Jahlil Okafor C < Trade #3 pick + Marcus Smart

Ryan Anderson PF < free agent pick up after Durant resigns 2 year deal with OKC.

Isaiah Thomas PG

Avery Bradley SG

Jae Crowder SF

Not a bad team right here. I'm confident the Celtics keep the 2017 swap draft pick. I think this team gets to the ECF

What?! They're not getting number three AND Smart for Okafor. Hell, it's now being reported that Danny isn't thinking Okafor is worth number three..

I think he's worth number 3 but I don't think the 3 + Smart is worth it but u never know, Danny tried before the deadline.

There was a rumor at the deadline that something like that *may* have been offered, but that was when the Brooklyn pick wasn't a top-3 lock. That substantially changes things now with regard to value.
