If we choose Buddy Hield or Jamal Murray at 3 who's gone IT, AB or Smart?

Just want to see what everyone thinks the outcome of the roster will be if we draft either Hield or Murray because if we do draft 1 of them someone has to go. We can't have a number 3 draft pick getting almost zero minutes.

So what outcome would you guys prefer?

I see myself as having an opinion which will not be too favorable in this board but I think we should trade IT and AB.

I don't believe IT has many years left in his prime and coming off an Allstar season his value won't get higher and to get Jabari Parker a potential All Star floor spacing PF would be amazing. IT is great and I love him but we aren't winning any championships with him leading us in scoring and I don't see us attracting any other big time scorers here. I think the Bucks take this because they need a legit PG bad and having IT would give them a good scoring option and distributor who can run the PnR with Monroe while inserting John Henson into the starting lineup to add rim protection.

AB is amazing he's a first team defender and a great 3 pt shooter but we don't need a complimentary piece right now we need a Star for the future and if we could get the 6 pick for him I say go for it. If Jaylen Brown is still on the board Brown could come off the bench and take Turners minutes until his shot improves. I think the Pelicans are going to push hard to be contenders next year to keep Davis happy and having a 3 and D player spacing the floor for Anthony Davis is much better than a project rookie for them. If both trades went through we would have to replace the 16th pick with KO and 2nd rounders

This all would benefit us because Marcus deserves the starting spot he can handle the ball, he showed he can pass, and he showed his ability to slash in the playoffs.We would also gain some great pieces and players for the future.

Marcus will have a breakout year leading the team, Buddy will be a deadeye his first game and could develop into an all star in a year or two, Crowder will improve his shooting even more, Parker will show why he can be an All star one day with his scoring, and we sign Whiteside to help with Parker's defense. And Brown will flourish off the bench and show he could replace Jae in the starting lineup by next year.

We also retain Sully for rebounding and Big center defensive purposes when Whiteside gets in foul trouble.

I know I might get torn to shreds because this is a 2k-esque post but it's the offseason there are crazy posts left and right.

If they did select one of those guys, I think I'd prefer it be Murrary.

He could play SG next to IT, but tt sounds like he has some real playmaking skills and could share PG duties alongside Smart and maybe carry that load as PG with Avery on the floor. His versatility culd carve out some minutes for him.

But the OP is right that they can't keep everyone. If IT, Bradley, and Smart all get about 30 minutes per game, spread across the 2 guard positions, that only leaves 6 minutes per game for Murray. Smart can play some SF but how much? And what happens to Rozier?

The Celtics would have to feel like Murray had more upside than any of these other guys already on the roster.

If draft a guard and we think they are can't miss then one of our present guards will be traded.   I wager Smart and our number one for next year for a Philly Big.  Depends on how his shooting is progressing this summer.  I could also see AB moved to CLE for Love and CHI for Butler, but it will take more than he to get it done.

Ainge traded PP and KG, so if the right deal comes along IT, AB and Smart would be gone in a second.  We do not have an untouchable asset, at present, at least not with Ainge.

This is a good question for a number of reasons. Firstly, a number of the players likely to be available at 3 in the draft are accomplished guards. Then you have to consider that guard is not the area of greatest need. I am not saying that IT, AB and Smart (plus Turner) don't do a job or can't use an upgrade, you should just always improve where you can.
I would trade Smart first though, mainly because I see IT and AB being contending level players in a stronger squad. Smart still needs to work on too many areas.

Turner will be playing SF off the bench, unless Young and Hunter suddenly took over his role.

Bradley has 2 years left on his 4 year deal right.. I believe that this team realistically wont be ready to actually push for a chip for another 2 years..  I believe any trade for a major piece would cost us Bradley. Would be nice to have a young franchise player groomed.

I'm in this camp as well.  The question of who HAS to go if we draft a guard is making a false assumption from the start.  Turner's minutes will be available, plus Smart had some success in the playoffs as a small ball 3.  Murray would improve our team more than any other player available with the third pick.  Both short term and long term.

Of the 3, I think AB is by far the best candidate. Coming off hist 1st team NBA selection, his value is sky high, but frankly he is a bit overrated on both ends. In offense, he shoots fairly well, but ideally you want your SG to have PG skills in Brads zystem, and thats a big weakness for him. Defensively he can lock down an assignment, but he only guards 2 positions,and his off ball defense isn't that good.

Id be happy to trade him for the #6 pick. Take Poeltl or Davis.

Yep.  Marcus slots into Turner's role as the primary ball-handler with IT off the floor and Hield is shooting off the bench.
