I have been against making the playoffs while using veteran players that are not in our immediate future or even long-term future(3 years now). Many here know how I harped on and on about DA's mistake in not trading/releasing/cutting/buying out: Bass, Gigi, and Jonas at the 2015 deadline. And even at one point I posted that I wish he cut Crowder as well.
-I also made a point to draft Upshaw at 16 if Ainge and Brad and med staff liked him, though it was briefly and I made it clear that we should get him as late as possible. After watching the guys I basically scouted for 2 years, like Towns and Turner, become out of our reach(unless a trade to move up for Turner) at 16 I scouted Upshaw with his 7'7'' wingspan and 9'5'' standing reach. It seems now like strong Opiods and another equally harmful drug may have been involved and he never really put a stretch of sobriety together.
Basically I've made mistakes and want to learn from them.
I am going to act as if I'm DA and my goal is to build a long-term championship team that CBS and co. can mold and grow with over the years.
So please give me your honest feedback on:
-the hypothetical off-season strategy that I am going to put in place for us
- outcomes and opportunities for us in the 2016 and 2017 draft.
-Take overlooked/under-performing players and create value and demand to sell high
-The ability for our CORE players to improve
-Getting BKN and Celtic's 2017 first rounders, and what we need to do, beside conveying a 2017 first, to have them accept
If you have a bias or do not know enough to comment on a certain player just be honest and say so and why. Remember I do not know exactly what teams want or are willing to give up, but I would appreciate your feedback if you think we are giving up too much or if you think it is not enough.
PLAN
Jahlil Okafor
4
#3
This would be my first move and IMO the most important. Knowing that we have Okafor gives me the option to search the league for another long-term core player. If it costs too much then I would wait for the right opportunity but I would be worried about IT and AB's contract negotiation in 2 years and IMO they are worth much more now.
IT and AB
4
Jabari Parker, John Henson, 2017 first(to convey to BKN)
We can create value with Henson and then trade him. He also gives Brad a legit Center to play over Okafor if Jahlil is not playing hard or well. Henson should be in his prime and if given the minutes can compete for most blocks, he averaged 2bpg in 16mpg.
Jabari, IMO, like Okafor has a great stroke and it's just a matter of time before he starts nailing his shots from 3.
Sign RFA Allen Crabbe
Crabbe will cost over 10mil and maybe we can do a sign and trade but signing him gets us more value than trading for Jimmy Butler or someone else in that range.
Crabbe is a legit defender and can definitely be our guy at the 2 for 3 and D. He also is 6'7'', 6'11'' wingspan, and can defend multiple positions and he just turned 24.
Get BKN and Celt's 2017 first round picks
We will have to convey a 2017 pick to them, and because this is very complicated situation I really would need to defer to others. But the Net's do need prospects and we do have a ton of 2nd rounders this year and guys like RJ Hunter, 23rd pick this year, and etc. IDK what do you think?
Draft Tim Luwawu @ 16He is everything we need at the swing position and we should take a chance on him if he is available.
Possibly trade Crowder to Pelicans for a package based around the #6. Depends on if our guy is at 6 or maybe we can get multiple picks like #6 and a 2018 first. Hield may be a good selection at 6 or Bender could fall.
2017 Draft
either trade our 2 picks for a legit 4,or depending on how things play out we could possibly select Dennis Smith Jr and Bam Bam
Next Year Starting Line-up
Smart/Rozier
Allen Crabbe/Luwawu
Crowder/Parker/Luwawu
Jabari Parker/KO
Jahlil Okafor/Henson
Jabari should be playing 3 but Crowder and Jabari could switch on give nights until we get a legit 4 or someone steps up. What do you think.
If we did the Crowder trade and got Hield he could be 6th man.
