That's crazy that Stevens got extended with three years still remaining on his contract. Excellent work. I agree that this is a sign to potential free agents as showing stability, along with it being a no-brainer for all parties involved.

Jpotter, you were worried about losing Brad to the Pacers like a month a go? Lol :)

Eh, it was less of me being worried about it *right now* and more just bringing up a topic to talk about as a possibility in a year or two. I was under the assumption that the Pacers would be his dream job, but others seemed to have a different opinion. If the Pacers job was still open and we hadn't made any strides in our title chase, then I definitely would've been worried in two years or so with him only having one year left on his contract. Of course, I was obviously completely off if he's now signing major contract extensions with three years left!  :P

They won't say how long the extensions are for, or whether or not they end at the same time.  I guess Woj will have to leak it out at some point.

Also, they agreed weeks ago and just announced it today.  Quite the fort at keeping information inside when they want to, I guess!

The organization does a great job of staying close-lipped with this stuff.  I think it will be a while until the details come out, unless Danny decides to leak it to Bulpett before then
I'm bitter.

I'm happier about the Stevens extension than I am about the Ainge extension.

So I just read a tweet from an SI writer that Danny directly addressed certain college jobs, i.e. Duke, UNC, IU, in Brad's extension. Of course, now it's deleted. Anyone know what's that about? Could they have put an opt-out in if one of those major coaching positions would become available?

Danny said that we would no longer have to worry about those rumors.  Not his exact words, but he basically said that Stevens wouldn't be leaving for a college job and that fans wouldn't have to worry about hearing those rumors.

Does anyone know anything about the length and money of Stevens new deal?  I saw Bill Simmons tweeted that the C's signed him through 2022, but he joked that it gave Brad time to run for office in 2024 so I don't know if that was just Simmons having some fun.

It was actually the contrary. The extension was seen as a way to dispel those rumors:

So, why the quick trigger on Stevens? Ainge gave a glimpse into that reasoning with one half-joking but telling reply. “We’re grateful to have Brad and (his wife) Tracy, and have them with us for a long-term situation,” Ainge said. “We don’t have to answer any more questions about Indiana and Butler. And Duke. And North Carolina.” Stevens, who led Butler to back-to-back NCAA title games before coming to the Celtics, obviously is highly coveted at the collegiate level, and rumors once persisted that he’d consider a return to college ball. It seems Ainge and Co. were well aware of the reputation Stevens carries, and that could have led them to make sure he isn’t going anywhere. “Brad (was) a historic coach at Butler,” Pagliuca added. “We didn’t just get him here to get him away from Duke.”

I'm guessing it was an SI writer who was either wrong or making crap up.  Ainge said that he now didn't have to worry that Stevens would leave for one of those jobs, but more in a "I know he's committed here" sense, and not an actual contractual element.  And Stevens made a very compelling statement that he had no intention of leaving.

In the past there has been some joking that Wyc would let Stevens coach Duke, because Wyc is a Dukie.  But nothing more than that.

Gotcha. Good deal. That scared me for a bit that they'd specifically talk about those schools in the extension.

I always thought Stevens was waiting for either Coach K to retire or Roy Williams. I am thrilled he is staying.

Per Bulpett:

Hearing Brad Stevens' extension is for three years, bringing him back up to six total.

Personally i expected it to be a bit longer. But 6 more years of Brad is always fantastic!
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.
